Job Description
The Manufacturing Engineer assists in the design, control, and improvement of the manufacturing/assembly processes and quality for an assigned area. This role is responsible for continuous improvement of the productivity and quality metrics for the assigned area and will act as the engineering resource in support of the daily manufacturing/assembly needs.
Responsibilities:
- Create and maintain a safe working environment, and actively participate in and lead plant safety events, committees, and activities. Support plant in safety engagement activities that help drive our site as a safety center of excellence.
- Own ergonomic assessments for assigned area. Responsible for conducting assessments and ensuring risk priority scores (RPS) meet specified standards.
- Perform advanced planning activities, including participation in design reviews and Process Failure Mode Effects Analysis (PFMEAs), develop standard work documents, author and manage control plans and shop floor quality documents.
- Support New Product Development activities, including developmental runs, in terms of product, process, and quality qualifications.
- Lead disciplined problem-solving activities and provide process and quality engineering support to the manufacturing/assembly and maintenance teams to solve product, equipment, and process related issues. Identify and implement engineered solutions and recommend design changes to prevent manufacturing/assembly and quality issues.
- Own and lead Lean and continuous improvement activities for assigned areas. Identify, manage and successfully complete projects and tasks, and lead and facilitate Kaizen events in support of manufacturing/assembly process and quality continuous improvement.
- Manage and execute projects associated with the plant strategic direction. Initiate capital expenditure requests for capital projects and execute capital expenditure requests through full payback.
- Own, develop, and maintain department layouts and coordinate equipment moves.
- Own, coordinate, and maintain the equipment safety signoff and release process.
- Utilize standard Industrial Engineering tools for the qualification of labor and establishment of headcount templates.
- Monitor and adjust line capacities in response to significant confirmed volume changes.
- Conduct ongoing dialog with external resources to drive improvement in external quality, new products quality, design quality, and supplier quality.
- Compile, prepare, and present data for project updates and technical presentations.
- Own and lead the performance of the following metrics safety RIR, productivity, quality PPM, CAPAs (consumer, process, supplier), scrap, and equipment OEE.
- Perform required data analysis of process audits, first pass yield, and outgoing quality defects to systematically improve product and process issues.
- May provide direction to Engineering Assistants to include providing feedback on performance evaluations, timekeeping, management, and daily tasking in response to manufacturing/assembly requirements.
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
- Associate’s degree with Engineering and/or manufacturing focus with a minimum of 5 years of prior experience in a high volume, progressive assembly or manufacturing environment and pursuit of bachelor’s degree will be considered for a lesser position.
- Knowledge of formal problem-solving methodologies is preferred.
- Must have experience with Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, & Outlook), as well as DraftSight (or similar 2D CAD software), SolidWorks, and/or Creo and can develop presentations and communicate to all levels of the organization.
- SAP, MS Project and Minitab experience is preferred.
- Demonstrated data analysis and disciplined problem-solving skills resulting in quality/process improvements.
- Demonstrated successful project management skills.

Fortune Brands believes in fair and equitable pay. A reasonable estimate of the base salary range for this role is Hiring Pay Range: $60,000 USD - $99,000 USD. Please note that actual salaries may vary within the range, or be above or below the range, based on factors including, but not limited to, education, training, experience, professional achievement, business need, and location. In addition to base salary, employees will participate in either an annual bonus plan based on company and individual performance, or a role-based sales incentive plan.
