Controller - NYC

We are engaged to fill a Corporate Controller position with a dynamic and well-respected organization in New York City. This Corporate Controller position is a perfect fit for someone with a public accounting background and or a few years of private / public industry experience. The Controller will work hand in hand with the CFO and executive team to maintain the daily operational accounting and finance responsibilities of this manufacturing and distribution company.
A background working with entrepreneurial ownership, experience in the textile manufacturing sector, or similar industry, would transition well into this role. Close attention to detail, a strategic growth mindset and solid communications skills with a proficiency for numbers is required.
Responsibilities
- Oversee daily operational accounting responsibilities, including budgeting/forecasting, monthly consolidations, month-end close and providing accurate and timely financial statements and related analysis
- Supervise and develop a small finance and accounting team, including corporate accounting and A/P and A/R functions, providing hands-on leadership and developing staff, providing ongoing audit and analysis of accounting and finance operations, identifying inefficiencies and implementing improvements
- Ensure compliance and maintain standard operational accounting practices, cash management strategies and ongoing budgeting and forecasting activities
- Execute daily cash management function, monitoring cash flow and managing the line of credit
- Monitor inventory levels and turnover, working with the CFO to implement an accurate cost out model and set up a standard costing system that increases forecast accuracy and reduces estimating and pricing errors; provide reporting around pricing strategy and job costing as well as budget forecasting and comparison to actuals
- Oversee accurate and increasing job and customer profitability, analyzing budgeted hourly rates for estimating and job costing and overseeing sales commission calculations
- Support any post-merger integration of acquisitions from an accounting and reporting perspective
- Act as key member of ERP implementation team during upgrade and optimization projects, providing data integrity analysis and supporting the setup of accurate and repeatable internal reporting processes
- Manage annual financial statement audit and periodic bank and tax audits; ad hoc projects may include setting up new divisions or business line structures, updating/integrating new software packages or billing/tracking protocols
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- Master’s degree, CPA or CMA highly preferred
- 5 years of manufacturing industry experience with exposure to job cost accounting
- Strong communication skills and the ability to interact with operations, sales and other departments
- Intermediate to advanced software / ERP and financial reporting skills
Salary : $180,000 - $200,000
