We are working with a highly respected construction group in the Raleigh area that is currently searching for an Accounting Manager to join their growing Finance and Accounting team. This Accounting Manager role will be leading up the project accountants to support the Construction Operations group with cost reporting & review. This position is responsible for assisting Operations with the project setup, cost tracking, analysis and monthly reporting related to Construction activities. This is a full-time position and reports to the Controller. This position also works with Operational and Support personnel.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare and enter journal entries which includes approved reclassification of expenses into and out of accounts, correcting entries, allocating expenditures and etc.
- Routinely analyze revenues and expenses to ensure they are recorded appropriately
- Assist with preparation/review of financial statements and supporting schedules according to monthly close schedule
- Ensure that all company policies and procedures are adhered to
- Perform audits on a regular basis to verify transactions
- Assist in compiling information for external auditors, as required
- Participate in the preparation and entry of the annual budget to ensure cost control
- Prepare monthly account reconciliations
- Assist in documentation and monitoring of internal controls
- Maintain and increase knowledge in the accounting software
- Ensure the confidentiality of all company records and documents
- Assist with special projects assigned by management
- Performs other duties and projects as assigned
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Extensive knowledge of accounting and financial reporting methods, specifically in GAAP cost accounting
- Must be able to effectively handle multiple projects simultaneously in a deadline driven environment
- Marked ability to analyze and respond to situational problems
- Considerable skill in problem solving, conflict resolution and dealing with confidential information/situations
- Proven ability to deal with the stresses of meeting deadlines and company goals
- Must be able to do business calculations; complete reports with statistical data and mathematical relationships; perform quickly and accurately all computations related to accounting
- Intermediate to advanced experience with MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook or similar programs.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a customer service focus
- Ability to act and operate independently with minimal daily direction from manager to accomplish objectives
- Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees and management to maximize performance, creativity, problem solving, and results
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance and/or management
- A minimum of five years of experience in accounting. Experience with a mid-size to large construction company is preferred
- Possess computer knowledge and experience with Excel. Additional custom reporting tools and construction accounting program (i.e. Viewpoint) is preferred
- Strong understanding of accounting theory
- Highly detail oriented and organized in work
- Ability to meet assigned deadlines
