DEPARTMENT: AmeriCorps Seniors Programs – FGP and SCP
REPORTS TO: Rock Valley Rotary Club Foundation Board Members
WORKERS SUPERVISED: 2 FTE staff and up to 80 volunteers
SUMMARY: We are seeking a Director to oversee the Foster Grandparent and Senior Companion Programs across multiple counties in Iowa. Responsibilities include managing staff, public relations, grants, and budgets, as well as recruiting and supporting volunteers. The Director will ensure program compliance and work with the Sponsoring Agency to evaluate and improve operations.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
A. Responsibilities
- The Director will oversee staff in the Rock Valley office.
- The Director plans and conducts a continuous program of public relations in
- Sioux, Lyon, O’Brien, Plymouth, Dickinson, Woodbury, Monona, and Osceolacounties. The Director must be responsible for editing newsletters, brochures, andnews releases; to pursue and fulfill speaking engagements; and to assure dynamicand ongoing public relations with the business community and general public.
- The Director is responsible for seeing that the program is run in accordance with
- stated policies and procedures and to meet the goals and objectives of the FosterGrandparent Program and the Senior Companion Program as set forth by theAmeriCorps Seniors aka CNCS (Corporation for National Community Service).
- The Director prepares and issues reports to accommodate the administration and
- program needs specified by the sponsor, state, regional and federal personnel.The Director also provides quarterly reports to the Sponsoring Agency.
- The Director writes and oversee all grants, and is responsible for all fiscal/grants
- management and budgetary responsibilities.
- The Director applies sound fiscal procedures, authorizes expenditures, and
- approves the maintenance of the bookkeeping system
- The Director develops and maintains, with the assistance of the program staff, the
- financial, personnel, program and volunteer records.
- The Director works with the Sponsoring Agency in raising the necessary match
- fund to meet the financial obligation of the Grant.
- The Director assists as needed with all orientation and training programs which are presented to the volunteers prior to their involvement with the volunteer station as continuing in-service each month.
- The Director is responsible for locating, interviewing, and selecting volunteers for admission to the program and also hiring, writing job descriptions, monitoring, and training needed staff.
- The Director is responsible for counseling and listening to volunteers with empathy for their needs.
- The Director must coordinate and provide for the transportation needs of the Foster Grandparents and the Senior Companions, meals on a daily basis, and provide program supplies when needed.
- The Director develops Memorandum of Understandings and other appropriate documents with volunteer stations. He/she plans and coordinates program activities and Foster Grandparent/Senior Companion assignments with appropriate volunteer station staff.
- The Director annually evaluates the effectiveness of operational procedures, project activities, and Foster Grandparent/Senior Companion work quality.
- The Director provides staff assistance to the Foster Grandparent/Senior Companion Advisory Board, Sponsoring Agency and consults board members on significant plans, actions, changes and problems affecting the project.
- The Director attends all AmeriCorps Seniors training programs and other appropriate conferences on aging and volunteerism.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
BA/BS in related Human Services field and a minimum of two years management experience.

Pay: $60,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
