What are the responsibilities and job description for the Estimator [UDHG] position at Foundation Building Materials?
Position Overview
Estimators are responsible for evaluating bid specifications and drawings, ensuring that UDHG knows the requirements to successfully bid and win a project. The Estimator is responsible for including all materials and related services in the organization’s bids. The Estimator prepares written estimates and take-offs, prepares weekly sales update reports, and works to ensure plans adhere to contract specifications. The Estimator completes sub-contractor prequalification process and forwards completed applications to the Sales Representative and fully dissects a job to review job costs, overhead and profit to ensure accurate job cost budgets for sold projects. This position reports to the Director of Estimating.
Key Responsibilities
Prepares work to be estimated by gathering proposals, blueprints, specifications, and related documents and provides accurate scopes of work and detailed budget breakdowns.
Identifies labor, material, and time requirements by studying proposals, blueprints, specifications, and related documents.
Computes costs by analyzing labor, material and time requirements accounting factors outside company control that will impact the final bid package.
Resolves discrepancies by collecting and analyzing finished quotes prior to turning the quote over to the Sales Representative.
Prioritize assigned projects and prepare estimates for bid through effectively performing take-off tasks on projects where required. Presents prepared estimate by assembling and displaying numerical and descriptive information.
Maintains cost database by entering and backing up data.
Implement the most cost-effective and labor-efficient scheduling program possible.
Pursue contract buy down after award of project from both the material suppliers and subcontractors.
Education/Certifications
College degree or equivalent combination of construction industry experience.
Two years in the construction industry, with emphasis in the specific fields of Doors, Frames, Hardware, and Specialties.
Great communication and problem-solving skills.
Highly productive
Strong interpersonal skills
Proficiency with estimating software (e.g. Bluebeam, EPWS.)
Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Experience in the construction industry is a plus
Ability to communicate effectively and professionally
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
High degree of ownership for projects, a sense of urgency and strong follow-through
