Position Overview
The Senior Estimator independently gathers information for hollow metal, hardware, wood doors, specialties, and other products, as required from architectural plans and specifications, to provide pricing and sell work to the customer according to their own business judgment and discretion. This is a senior level position, and the role will only be assigned to complicated or significant projects
Key Responsibilities
Maintains an estimate log and the Project Estimate folder
Performs an accurate takeoff of the material quantities from plans and specifications
Analyzes all applicable and related specifications sections and drawings and points out specification issues to customers and provides possible solutions
Analyzes code compliance and calls deviations to the attention of the salesperson
Request quotations from vendors while considering the impact of project timeline
Analyzes vendor quotes for accuracy and compliance with specifications and leads initial quote negotiations with vendors
Ensures Compliance with Company policy regarding Specification writer support
Analyzes, manages, and negotiates contracts and purchase orders with customer
Prices the quantities using vendor quotes and best pricing as applicable
Provides accurate project specific freight cost
Submits estimated cost to salesperson for mark up and sell prices
Prepares formal proposal including all appropriate inclusions and exclusions to customers bidding on project, negotiates price and value engineers as required
Follows all company guidelines for inclusions and exclusions in the proposal
Follows company policy and procedures to include accurate project specific Freight cost
Manages, maintains, and develops new relationships with vendors and customers
Maintains up to date knowledge of industry products and technologies available to sell
Maintains competency in computer software used in preparations of estimates
Performs other related duties as assigned by management
Education/Certifications
College degree preferred in Construction Mgmt., Architecture or related field can be substituted for experience requirement
Experience
Two to four years as an Estimator in door & hardware industry or related trade
Knowledge Skills & Abilities
Strong competency in computer software and project knowledge
Basic accounting knowledge
Excellent organizational and time-management skills
Good communication skills & demonstrated leadership skills

Travel
Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel maybe expected.
