Foundation for Blind Children is currently seeking a part time Teacher of the Hearing Impaired for up to 20 hours per week to work as an integral part of our teaching team. Compensation is based on degree and years of teaching experience.
Foundation for Blind Children (FBC) is a high profile, nationally recognized non-profit in Phoenix, Arizona. Job duties include:
- Sse professional knowledge to address the goals outlined in the IEP of the deaf/hearing impaired or deafblind learner, while demonstrating respect for individual differences, cultures, and learning needs
- Assess the educational needs of learners who are deaf/hearing impaired or deafblind as well as gather data to determine learner needs, measure learner progress, guide instruction and intervention and provide timely feedback to the team.
- Oversee the use of technical and other specialized equipment for learner with dual sensory loss.
- Oversee communication needs and language development in signed and/or spoken language as outlined in the child’s IEP.
- Provide training and teaching to children or staff where appropriate to facilitate the child’s learning, inclusion, and independence. This may include the use of specialist equipment and teaching and learning materials.
- Complete necessary components to the child’s Individual Education Plans, Present Levels of Functional Performance, and Annual Reviews.
- Travel to each FBC to provide IEP service minutes.
- Attend IEP meetings.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or master’s Degree in special education and/or deaf education OR hold a valid teacher for the hearing impaired certification
- At least 1-2 years of experience in a classroom setting working with severe/profound students needing intensive supports.
- At least 2 years working with children with sensory impairment specifically deafblind education.
- Knowledge of the special education process and law
- Knowledge of school operations
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Has a basic understanding of instructional methods and education curriculums.
- Must have excellent interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational skills
- Must be able to maintain a calm demeanor in challenging situations.
- Ability to approach situations with optimism and perseverance.
- Ability to work independently and coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to exercise reasonable judgment and maintain confidentiality.
- Valid Arizona IVP fingerprint clearance card required.
