We are looking for someone passionate about raising awareness and focus on libraries in Lincoln, NE, and surrounding Lancaster county.
Position Overview
The Executive Director is a full-time, salaried position that will be responsible for enhancing and expanding the FLCL’s revenue, inviting and retaining donors, and increasing membership support. They will interface with and coordinate actions with the Director of Lincoln City Libraries, having regular meetings and discussions to ensure actions of the FLCL are in accord with the goals and objectives of the Lincoln City Libraries. The Executive Director will work towards raising awareness of the FLCL’s campaigns and events for all Lincoln City Library locations, including the Lied Book Mobile.
Key responsibilities include developing and initiating strategies for soliciting gifts through memberships, grants, fundraisers and events, such as the annual Wine & Dine, Give to Lincoln, and support for events sponsored by the Lincoln City Libraries (LCL) and the Nebraska Literary Heritage Association (NLHA). They will work with the FLCL Board of Trustees, committees within, and communicate with the Board of Trustees for Lincoln City Libraries on a regular basis.
The Executive Director will also strategize and cultivate planned gifts. This will include working with library staff, board members, and volunteers and will be a significant part of the fundraising team.
The Executive Director reports to the FLCL Board of Trustees.
This position is based in Lincoln, NE, hours Monday-Friday, with evenings and weekends as needed.
Salary: $70,000 – 90,000 commiserate with qualifications
Paid leave & holidays: Federal holidays including Labor Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, and Independence Day; plus additional two weeks
Job Responsibilities
May include but are not limited to the following. Other duties may be assigned.
· Provide leadership and direction for the Foundation for Lincoln City Libraries to develop and implement fundraising initiatives to support programs that serve the library’s mission, vision, values and yearly budgetary goals such as annual campaigns, major gift, corporate and foundation giving, endowment giving and legacy giving programs.
· Represent the FLCL, working with the FLCL Board of Trustees, Library Board of Trustees, community businesses, and outside organizations.
· Build, cultivate, and maintain relationships with key individuals and prospective donors. Ensure donors are kept informed about Foundation goals and updates on specific events or activities.
· Manage all donor stewardship and correspondence.
· Manage social media and website information, to promote and inform the public on goals, events, and opportunities.
· Build programs and fundraising events that support Library and Foundation goals. Manage event logistics including catering, facility arrangements, entertainment and outreach.
· Cultivate an expansive network and work with diverse groups including community members, volunteers and donors to grow and maintain awareness of the library’s mission and goals.
· Manage and support committees within the Board of Trustees, including Finance, Events, Nominating, and others deemed necessary.
· Manage and support Friends of Lincoln City Libraries and NLHA
· Work with FLCL nominating committee and trustees to identify and attract board member who can help carry out fundraising goals. Actively develop and maintain Foundation board member relationships.
· Provide appropriate education programs to strengthen and expand Foundation Board members’ fundraising skills and contacts. Convene committees as needed.
· Attend monthly Foundation and Library board meetings.
Desired Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in public or business administration, marketing, communications or other related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum 5 years of fundraising experience
- Certified Fund-Raising Executive (CFRE) credentials desirable
- Strong public speaking skills
- Experience developing and managing strategies/goals, programs and budgets
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
- Grant writing experience
- Experience with legacy planning is a plus.
