POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the general direction and supervision of the CEO, the Program Director is responsible for the supervision and management of all facets of the Health & Wellness Department. Paramount will be providing best in class and quality wellness programming and member engagement. The Sr. Program Director will also provide the leadership necessary to advance the mission of the organization and is responsible for the development, instruction, retention, maintenance, and staffing of all health and wellness functions at the YMCA including, but not limited to: Group Exercise, Strength and Cardiovascular, Personal Training; Floor Trainers, Fitness Assessments, Evidence Based Health Initiatives, Youth Fitness.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Provide premiere membership experience, value, service, and retention programs by planning, budgeting, promoting and implementing all program initiatives including but not limited to personal training, group exercise and fee -based fitness programs.
- Jointly responsible for enhancing member relations and retention by working closely with the Membership Engagement Director and the team of Directors at the YMCA.
- Develop, implement, and oversee all programs that reflect the community’s needs and maintain the YMCA’s high standards of quality, safety and character development.
- Hire, train, supervise and evaluate fitness floor staff, gym monitors, and volunteers as programs dictate and budget guidelines allow.
- Hire, train, supervise and evaluate group fitness and personal training coordinators.
- Hire, train, supervise and evaluate Duty Officers.
- Develop and implement annual budgets for assigned program and membership areas and manage agreed upon budgets within operating guidelines.
- Oversee purchases and maintain department related supplies within budget guidelines and maintain a clean and safe program area.
- Perform and supervise maintenance of wellness equipment.
- Participate in staff meetings, support fundraising initiatives, and attend professional training as appropriate.
- Maintain a professional image and manner consistent with the YMCA’s mission and goals.
- Act as a role model and incorporate character development values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility into the daily operation of the fitness department and programs.
- Assume other duties deemed necessary by supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- The preferred candidate will have (5) five years' experience in the fitness industry with at least (2) two years in a supervisory capacity.
- Bachelor's degree from a four-year college/university in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or a related field is preferred.
- Personal training certification through a reputable organization (i.e., ACE, ACSM, NASM).
- Maintain CPR, First Aid, AED, CPO and 02.
- Must be a people-person with the ability to build relationships with and among members.
- Enthusiastic team player and healthy role model with a solid understanding of the YMCA Mission, Membership & Wellness programs.
- Knowledge and successful experience and skills in staff supervision, fitness programming, marketing and promotions.
- Self-motivated, strong leadership, excellent oral and written communication skills, and good administrative skills.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Ability to physically and verbally interact with members and staff.
- At times, be able to lift amounts up to 50 lbs.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
- Ability to work evenings, early mornings, weekends and holidays
