Horizons of Pitt County is a literacy and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) focused program that inspires students to learn, achieve, and experience greater academic success. Most of all, students develop a love of learning. Horizons program includes swimming instruction, breakfast and lunch, field trips, recreation, arts, and an overall emphasis on family involvement.
Horizons is hiring for a Program Director. We are looking for someone who is detailed oriented and time specific with communication and project completion, excellent communication and networking skills, computer literacy, including data entry. Program Director
General Description
The Program Director of Horizons of Pitt County is the lead administrator of the Horizons of Pitt
County (Horizons) program and reports directly to the Board of Directors. Duties and
responsibilities include fundraising, board support, community relations, and budget oversight.
Major Responsibilities
Program Management
- Assume ultimate responsibility for overseeing the development and implementation of
the Horizons program
- Ensure programmatic components of the Horizons program are implemented, in
coordination with the Program Manager
- Complete all required state reports and reports due to Horizons National
- Coordinate special/seasonal events for the students, in coordination with the Program
Manager and/or the Family Engagement Committee
Board Support
- Attend all monthly meetings of the Horizons Board, in an ex-officio (non-voting) capacity
- Serve in an ex-officio capacity on Horizons Board committees
- Arrange or provide clerical assistance for all Horizons Board committees
- Work with the Horizons Board in developing/expanding new programs
- Support all Horizons Board fundraising events
o Identify potential funding individuals and corporations with Horizons Board
members and development director
- Inform the Horizons Board President regarding all significant Horizons activities
- Work with and update the long-range plan
- Submit appropriate reports at regular Horizons Board meetings
Public/Community Relations
- Promote community awareness of Horizons
- Coordinate media relations and social media posts in conjunction with the development
director
- Coordinate visitor days during the summer program
- Prepare reports and newsletters to showcase the program2
- Establish sound working relationships and cooperative arrangements with community
groups and organizations that can support Horizons and its participants in conjunction
with development director
Budget
- Work with the Horizons Board Treasurer and members of the Budget/Finance
Committee to develop an annual budget and manage monthly expenses
- Manage resources within the budget and ensure that Horizons operates within the
budget guidelines
Qualifications/Skills
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nonprofit Management, Business Administration, or Education
preferred
- Program supervision and management experience
- Budget management, staff management, and team-building skills
- Demonstrated technical skills and abilities
- Effective communications skills (written, social media, verbal, etc.)
- Creativity and innovation
- Previous knowledge of eastern North Carolina preferred
- A desire to work in a diverse and inclusive school environment
- A commitment to work and innovate collaboratively with colleagues and support them
Job Type: Full-time
Schedule:
- 8 hour shift
- Monday to Friday
- Weekends as needed
License/Certification:
- Driver's License (Required)
