Location: Birmingham, AL (Hybrid) | Part-Time to Full-Time, Flexible Schedule to match the needs of FHFC leadership. Pay range: $20 - $22/hr monthly benefits stipend and paid time off after 90 days of satisfactory employment.

Fountain Heights Farms Cooperative, led by Maria Dominique Villanueva, is seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented, and mission-aligned Administrative Assistant to provide high-level administrative and operational support. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, deeply values-driven environment and can create and keep systems flowing while centering sustainable business practices, land and food justice, and community healing.
About the Executive:
Maria Dominique Villanueva is a dynamic leader in urban agriculture, Black land justice, and community organizing. She is a mother, farmer, educator, and strategic visionary behind initiatives like the We All Eat CSA, the Freedom Harvest Apprenticeship, and the Heart of the Farm development. She also manages grants, collaborates nationally with food justice organizations, serves on several boards, and develops innovative models for economic, environmental, and cultural sustainability.

Key Responsibilities:Administrative & Scheduling Support- Manage multiple calendars, prioritize appointments, and coordinate meetings across multiple time zones and organizations.
- Schedule and prepare materials for meetings, panels, grant reviews, workshops, and speaking engagements.
- Monitor and triage email inboxes; draft, send, and follow up on correspondence.
- Keep project timelines, deadlines, and deliverables on track across multiple grant-funded programs and community initiatives.
- Coordinate, calendar, and provide logistical support for farm events and activities.
- Draft, edit, and organize newsletters, reports, social media posts, grant applications, and public-facing materials using Dominique’s voice and tone.
- Help manage Canva graphics and campaigns, especially for social media promotions related to workshops, CSA shares, grants, and community events.
- Assist in maintaining clear and accessible records of communications, testimonials, and program impact stories.
- Work closely with outside consultants in marketing and communications.
- Conduct background research on funding opportunities, partners, and policies related to land justice, sustainable agriculture, and education.
- Assist in grant management tasks, including tracking deadlines, compiling supporting documents, and submitting reports.
- Maintain organized digital archives of contracts, funder correspondence, proposals, and reports.
- Support logistics for CSA programs, workshops, film screenings, volunteer days, and community dinners—includes registrations, participant follow-up, and supply coordination.
- Track attendance, evaluations, and follow-up actions for events.
- Help with volunteer and apprentice communications, scheduling, and support.
- Develop and maintain organizational systems (Google Drive, Motion, Planable, etc.) to support Dominique’s strategic goals and everyday workflow.
- Support budget tracking, invoice processing, and coordination with fiscal sponsors and bookkeepers.
- Provide proactive reminders, weekly briefs, and summaries of key tasks and priorities.
- Generally helping with the administrative and operational tasks and anything else needed to assist leadership in keeping the team and organization moving forward.
- Deep alignment with Fountain Heights Farms Cooperative’s mission and Black liberation values.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including comfort writing in a bold, witty tone when needed.
- Comfort navigating ambiguity, shifting priorities, and multiple simultaneous projects.
- Experience supporting high-level executives, grassroots organizers, or creatives.
- Comfort with tools like Google Suite, Canva, Zoom, Planable, Motion, or willing to learn.
- Bonus: familiarity with grant reporting, CSA logistics, sustainable agriculture, or community development work.
- Grounded and detail-loving, but flexible enough to roll with the rhythm of grassroots work.
- Able to hold and track complexity across visionary goals, urgent logistics, and relational community work.
- An organizer at heart, who can also follow through on administrative details and honor timelines.
- Excited about supporting a powerful Black woman leader who is growing food, raising a family, building an urban-farming centered community development organization, and changing systems.
- Salaried compensation based on experience.
- Flexible scheduling with a mix of remote and in-person (Birmingham-based preferred). Please expect to take meetings while I’m farming, attend external meetings and conferences,
