Vice President of Crude Oil Markets and Downstream

Responsible for the overall management, planning and administration of company-wide crude oil sales. Oversees market development and research, develops, relationships with current and potential customers, negotiates contracts and transportation and exchange agreements. Also responsible for crude oil midstream and downstream strategic asset planning and operations to optimize value, create flow assurance and increase upstream company netbacks. A special emphasis will be placed on maximizing the value chain from sales of yellow wax crude to include optimal downstream marketing and sales arrangements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for all marketing arrangements to ensure flow and ultimate monetization of crude oil production
  • Prepares, reviews, analyzes, modifies, negotiates, consummates, and administers commercial agreements, confidentiality agreements, short- and long-term crude oil sales agreements, crude oil transportation, and production system agreements, and infrastructure facility ownership agreements necessary to ensure crude oil production flow and maximum value creation
  • Develop and execute strategic method for selling crude oil that supports overall business and operational needs and vision
  • Participates in/or leads crude oil commercial negotiations with third parties/partners and company representatives (finance, legal, etc.)
  • Ensure all crude oil sales are documented and in conformity with contractual terms for accounting and auditing purposes
  • Recommends, develops, and implements the marketing strategy for new crude oil production including infrastructure requirements, optimal service provider, facility design, quality specifications needs, etc.
  • Proposes and brings to fruition complex and highly innovative opportunities including those with joint venture partners as they pertain to crude oil sales
  • Pursue economic methods to explore and develop approaches to split products from yellow wax crude oil to assess the potential of selling component products separately
  • Ensure wells are connected in a timely manner
  • Identify and evaluate strategic options to improve netback crude oil pricing
  • Communicate with Refineries, Pipelines, Railroads and Operations to minimize downtime
  • Communicate crude oil pricing arrangements to the Reservoir Engineering Department to assist in upstream asset acquisition evaluations
  • Assist management in developing near and long-term crude oil business plans
  • Evaluate and negotiate the elimination of any system or tankage imbalances
  • Ensure all sales of crude oil produced from non-operated properties are negotiated with the operators and/or purchasers to ensure timely sales for the best price
  • Leads the ongoing optimization of midstream crude oil assets and recommends path forward on future developments
  • Works with crude oil midstream service providers to construct, expand, and access additional capacity
  • Provide data support for litigation or dispute defense relating to crude oil sales
  • Keeps current on regulations, political risk factors and industry changes that may impact the companys crude oil assets
  • Work with Treasury to quantify and control credit exposure to crude oil purchasers. Limit and manage any credit assurance (letters of credit or other collateral requirements) required by crude oil purchasers
  • Leads the marketing & midstream interface with Business Development in the economic evaluation of acquisition and divestiture opportunities pertaining to crude oil sales and refining
  • Leads and promotes process improvement with emphasis on efficient standardized crude oil commercial processes: contracting, system data input, credit and delegation of authority adherence, etc.
  • Collaborate and communicate across all functions within the organization to ensure new marketing ideas support and are aligned with other teams goals and that all departments work together effectively to execute plans
  • Provide analysis to support crude oil hedging activities
  • Provide ad hoc market analysis as may be required
  • Other duties as required

Other Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage Crude Oil Marketing Activities:
  • Manage and lead crude oil scheduling activities for trucking and sales to the Salt Lake City refineries and sales by railroad transportation
  • Prepare and communicate Project Status Report and Well Connect Report
  • Summarize weekly and monthly midstream activity
  • Manage staff and/or contract personnel in the scheduling and contract administration roles
  • Communicate contractual arrangements with Management Team
  • Collaborate with Vice President of Gas Marketing to ensure effective execution and teamwork

Education, Skills and Experience Required

  • At least 10 years natural gas marketing and/or industry experience
  • Bachelors degree in business (emphasis in finance, economics, accounting, management or marketing)
  • Knowledge of petroleum agreements and significant transactional experience in project development agreements for upstream, midstream, and downstream exploration and production projects
  • Strong understanding of contracts and agreements and ability to review/negotiate all contractual terms
  • Experience in acquisitions and divestitures
  • Must have broad knowledge of E&P, oil and gas accounting, marketing
  • Must have thorough knowledge of midstream and downstream business in a variety of oil and gas producing states (OK, TX and UT preferred), including governmental regulations and oil and gas law
  • Ability to manage customers and develop positive relationships
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects under minimal supervision
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in a deadline-driven environment
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to negotiate sales, processing and transportation arrangements
  • Ability to provide guidance and supervision to Marketing Reps
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office PC programs

Compensation and Benefits

  • Annual Salary $250,000 - $337,000
