Job Summary
The Construction Engineer is responsible for planning and executing specific construction projects monitoring budget costs, and monitoring progress to ensure company quality standards are being met. This role will analyze blueprints, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare time, cost, and labor estimates for projects.
Duties / Responsibilities
- Review construction documents to determine material and labor requirements and prepares itemized lists.
- Analyze construction systems, write bid specifications, and provide value engineering and alternate constructions systems for the various scopes of work being reviewed.
- Determine cost factors and prepare estimates used for management purposes such as planning, organizing, and scheduling work, preparing bids, selecting vendors or subcontractors, analyzing and qualifying subcontractor /supplier bids, contract negotiations, and determining cost-effectiveness for projects.
- Conducts special studies to develop and establish standard hours and related cost data or effect cost reductions.
- Consults with clients, vendors, or other individuals to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues.
- Responsible for obtaining all project permit/DRB applications.
- Create and maintain construction schedule.
- Billing - Coding field tickets and entry of subcontractor invoices into our accounting software. This would entail processing and analyzing the monthly subcontractor billing as well as change order approval and tracking.
- Creates and supports all subcontractor contracts, subcontractor insurance, and safety compliance tracking.
- Responsible for determining and ordering Materials and equipment adjusting as needed throughout the course of the project.
- Manages Cost and budget for ongoing projects and report changes appropriately management for ongoing projects.
- Facilitates and supports the end of job closeout.
- Schedules and sets meeting agendas to include writing and maintaining notes.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of the construction process and understanding of the specifications and field labor.
- Strong skills in time management, communication, and the ability to work within tight deadlines and under pressure.
- Knowledge of the project management process and principles of scheduling and estimating
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work on more than one project at a time.
- Strong mathematical skills to include addition, multiplication, and division with the use of a calculator.
- Computer, construction software, calculators and other office equipment is a plus.
- Consistent attention to details with the ability to identify discrepancies.
- Requires working as both an individual and as part of a team.
- The ability to speak and understand Spanish is a plus.
Physical Requirements
- Able to stand, sit, kneel, and walk for extended periods of time,
- Capable of working outside in all weather conditions as needed.
- Able to lift and carry up to fifty pounds as needed.
Experience
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a construction engineer in the relevant field of specialization.
- Two years’ experience with construction estimations/bids/proposals
Education / Certifications
High School Diploma (or equivalent)
Degree in a construction-related field preferred but not required.
