Lead Cake Decorator/Backup Baker

Job Overview
We are seeking a lead cake decorator/backup baker for a small but rapidly growing bakery in Columbus, WI. The schedule is EXTREMELY flexible. Home trained bakers/decorators are encouraged to apply as well as program/college educated. Commission is also included in the pay. Please be prepared to offer a portfolio as well as a test bake and decorate session.

Responsibilities

• Design and decorate cakes according to customer requests, ensuring artistic presentation and attention to detail.
• Prepare cake batters, frostings, and fillings in accordance with recipes and food safety standards.
• Collaborate with the kitchen team to ensure timely production and delivery of baked goods.
• Partial responsibility for menu planning and baking of those items for the week.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the decorating area, adhering to food safety protocols.
• Package finished products for display or customer orders, ensuring they are presented attractively.
• Provide excellent customer service by interacting with clients to understand their needs and preferences.
• Stay updated on industry trends and techniques in cake decorating to continually enhance skills.
• Proactive individual who can work independently.

Experience

• Previous experience as a Cake Decorator or in a similar role within the food industry is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of culinary techniques related to pastry and cake decoration.
• Familiarity with food safety practices in a kitchen environment is essential.
• Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively with clients.
• Experience in catering or large-scale food production is a plus but not required, however be ready to learn to produce at this scale.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $12.00 - $14.00 per hour

Expected hours: 15 – 25 per week
