Our mission is to protect and improve the health of all New Yorkers.The Center for Population Health Data Science (CPHDS), launched in November of 2023, aims to catalyze critical data modernization work and enable the agency to link public health, healthcare, and social services for timely and effective public action.This position will be based at the Health Department’s office in Long Island City, NY, with the possibility of hybrid work.POSITION OVERVIEWThis is an exciting opportunity for an experienced leader to oversee the agency's user-centered effort to modernize how data is published and accessed. The Senior Director will lead a collaborative effort to empower analysts and researchers to publish program data and align these efforts with the agency’s communications priorities.RESPONSIBILITIESTechnology and Digital TransformationLead the development of a scalable, user-centered platform for publishing public health data.Collaborate with IT and data teams to integrate tools with the agency’s enterprise data systems.Drive the adoption of modern data visualization and publication technologies.Oversee the design of user interfaces and workflows for data access.Enablement and Capacity BuildingEstablish an Enablement Unit to provide support for publishing data.Develop guidelines and workflows that streamline data publishing.Foster a culture of collaboration across divisions.Act as a mentor to agency staff in user-centered design and data publishing.Strategic Leadership and CollaborationPartner with the Senior Director of Data Communications to align strategies.Collaborate with agency leadership to prioritize digital publication efforts.Build relationships to identify opportunities for data sharing.Engage with external partners to assess needs and feedback.Management and OversightBuild and manage a team of digital data specialists and designers.Oversee the maintenance of data publication workflows.Track platform performance and user engagement.QUALIFICATIONSMaster’s degree in public health, Data Science, or related field.Minimum of 10 years in public health data communication, with at least 3 years of supervisory experience.Demonstrated success in leading digital transformation projects.Proven expertise in data visualization and user experience design.PREFERRED SKILLSProficiency in data visualization tools and web development frameworks.Strong understanding of public health data systems.Familiarity with web development and data integration technologies.Excellent communication and project management skills.The ideal candidate must be a proactive individual comfortable with multitasking and working in dynamic environments.
