Position Description/Duties: The classroom teacher is responsible for setting-up and maintaining a developmentally appropriate, decentralized learning environment.

 

The applicant should:

  • Have knowledge of constructivist reading theory; problem-centered mathematics, and the writing process.
  • Be able to teach through the use of authentic learning materials; i.e. trade books, manipulatives, real-life experiences.
  • Be able to modify instruction to meet accomodations for all students.
  • Have access to personal teaching resources and materials.
  • Be able to follow the NC Standard Course of Study 

 

Duties: 

  • Plan and implement age-appropriate curriculum
  • Maintain records
    • Attendance
    • Behavior records
    • Student portfolios
    • Reading records for all students
    • Intervention plans 
    • Other records required by the state
  • Conduct 3-way conference with parent and child of performance evaluation, using grade appropriate rubrics at prescribed intervals.
  • Conduct other conferences as required; for example, meet with student support personnel.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly learning environment.
  • Participate in materials acquisition and evaluation.
  • Serve on FDNSC Directorate and/or committee requirements.
    • Be knowledgeable of and contribute to the everyday functioning of the school, which may involve helping with clerical or janitorial duties or assisting staff in a variety of ways.
    • Contribute and share resources that improve the learning environment and expertise of all personnel.
    • Evaluate teaching assistants twice a year.
    • Be aware of and follow all school policies.
    • Check email daily on school days.
    • Check email at least once/week during holidays and breaks.
    • Regularly attend staff development, grade level, directorate, and administrative meetings.

Francine Delany is a teacher-run school, which requires full time teachers to take on leadership roles to help run the school and participate in weekly staff meetings to make administrative decisions. 

  • ensure that the school conforms to state and federal laws,
  • make curriculum decisions, 
  • manage the budget,
  • oversee the admissions process, 
  • manage faculty and staff,
  • discipline students as outlined in our Safe School Plan, and
  • carry out the philosophy of the school in instruction.

 

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree 
  • Current NC Licensure (or certification that would transfer from another state)
  • Experience working with children
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • 5 years teaching experience
  • Knowledge/background in social justice teaching 
  • Experience in working with/promoting a diverse environment
  • National Board Certification and/or Master's Degree

Wages/SalaryState Scale with Competitive Supplement; State Retirement & Benefits and Dental Benefits.
