What are the responsibilities and job description for the Audiologist position at Francis Howell School District?
- Assessment: Conduct hearing evaluations using Otoscopy, Tympanometry, and other diagnostic tools to determine the range, nature, and degree of hearing loss.
- Treatment & Intervention: Recommend, fit, and adjust hearing aids, cochlear implants, and FM systems; monitor and optimize student hearing equipment usage.
- Collaboration: Work closely with teachers, parents, and school personnel to develop Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and 504 plans for students with hearing impairments.
- Education & Training: Provide guidance to staff, students, and families on hearing conservation, assistive listening devices, and classroom accommodations.
- Consultation: Advise Speech-Language Pathologists and Teachers of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing regarding auditory processing, aural rehabilitation, speech conservation, and other relevant matters.
- Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate records of student evaluations, treatment plans, progress, and hearing-related technology inventory.
- Advocacy & Resource Development: Research, write grants, and secure funding for amplification devices and hearing-related technology.
- Compliance & Ethics: Adhere to ASHA’s Code of Ethics for Audiology and the American Academy of Audiology Code of Ethics.
- Equipment Management: Evaluate, order, and maintain auditory training equipment and FM systems to support student learning.
- Education: Degree in Audiology with Missouri State Licensure.
- Experience: Job-related experience within a specialized field is required.
- Skills: Proficiency in conducting hearing assessments, interpreting diagnostic tests, programming cochlear implants, and utilizing hearing technologies.
- Knowledge: Understanding of hearing impairments, noise-related environmental factors, genetic disorders, and best practices in aural rehabilitation.
- Abilities: Ability to work independently, collaborate with diverse groups, maintain confidentiality, and adapt to changing work priorities.
- Physical Demands: Regularly required to sit, speak, hear, and read. Some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling may be required.
- Conditions: Work involves interactions with staff, students, and families in various school settings. The noise level is usually moderate.
