Shift: Rotation, various shifts to accommodate a team working 24 hours - REQUIRED
Hourly Wage: $25-$30/hour, NEGOTIABLE WITH EXPERIENCE
License Level Required: 2nd Class Fireman or higher - REQUIRED
Position Description:
The Boiler Operator provides day-to-day repair and preventative maintenance services to boiler equipment, Building equipment and infrastructure. Provides services regarding the maintenance, planned interruption and long-term replacement of mechanical services. Troubleshoots, repairs, and performs maintenance on all types of general mechanical equipment, boiler equipment, infrastructure, equipment/components. Provides support and assistance, as appropriate and trains other skilled trade personnel engaged in maintenance activities as defined by previous experience, expertise, and education. A 2nd Class Fireman or higher licensure is required.
Job Duties:
The qualified candidate in this position is responsible for boiler plant operation and monitoring while on watch. Boiler plant operation includes (but not limited to):
- Prompt and regular attendance at assigned facility/area of assignment
- Ability to work all shifts of at least 8 hours, and occasionally longer, 5 days per week
- Ability to stand for prolonged periods
- Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to walk, push, climb, stoop, bend, twist, turn, kneel, squat, crawl, and reach
- Ability to plan, prioritize workload, and effectively resolve problems
- Ability to communicate effectively with healthcare professionals, engineers, contractors, staff, legal and professionals
- Ability to analyze data, diagnose and troubleshoot complex systems and equipment
- Assumes accountability for demonstrating behaviors consistent with the customer service policy
- Maintains and regulates boilers; observes meters and gauges to determine operating condition of equipment; checks for water, gas, and combustible air leaks
- Cleans, paints, lubricates, services, and performs minor adjustments/repairs and preventative maintenance on equipment
- Uses blueprints, diagram, schematic drawings, and maintenance manuals to locate and eliminate sources of electrical, plumbing, and mechanical problems
- Monitors service call/work order systems and prioritizes work
- Maintains records accurately and makes reports
- Keeps lead or supervisor informed as to status of assignments, emergency and safety situations and other matters which may affect operation of boilers
- Overhauls and repairs pumps
- Performs safety checks on boilers and other equipment
- Conducts tests of water, analyzes water samples and applies treatment as tests direct
- Notifies department heads, nursing supervisors and other staff of power interruptions
- Assists in training less experienced workers
Qualifications:
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills with the ability to handle a wide variety of circumstances and conditions.
- Previous experience with various boiler manufacturers, models, styles, and operation of high- and low-pressure steam boilers and applicable regulations.
- Four (4) years’ experience in a large institution, commercial facility, or service company in regulatory compliance, maintenance, and contracting.
- Knowledge of Microsoft office products is preferred.
- Proper and safe use of tools and equipment used in electrical, plumbing, and mechanical repairs.
