JOB SUMMARY: To receive fresh produce deliveries, ensure that displays, coolers, and shelves are fully stocked, and handle purchasing of selected lines of product while providing prompt, friendly, customer service. Assist with developing and maintaining margin, inventory and labor goals. Direct and train junior staff to perform tasks with efficiency.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
PURCHASING:
- Handle purchasing for assigned lines of product as delegated by manager.
- Ensure correct pricing to achieve margin goals.
- Develop and manage working relationship with ordering departments, outside vendors and local farms.
- Participate in quarterly inventories as needed.
RECIEVING:
- Follow established and posted receiving procedures: check deliveries to verify piece count and for damage or unacceptable quality.
- Sign for deliveries with appropriate adjustments noted on invoice.
- Route all invoices to manager.
- Put away order, rotating stock in storage and maintain floor plan in storage area.
STOCKING:
- Check for highest priority stocking needs and stock those items before working on others.
- Replenish and rotate displays, culling and replacing often as needed, and following stocking priorities set and posted by Produce Manager.
- Trim, wash, and bundle product, disposing of damaged or spoiled goods promptly following established procedures.
- Make sure that signs and PLU stickers reflect correct item and price.
- Maintain cases with abundant and attractive display of product, using color and texture to enhance display.
- Maintain clear, attractive, consistent signage and maintain in clean and accurate form in proximity to items named.
CUSTOMER SERVICE:
- Assist customers with questions and special orders in prompt, friendly manner.
- Offer samples and suggestions for purchase and preparation in courteous manner.
- Be clear about delivery schedules and items out of stock.
- Bring questions or problems to the person in charge.
- Emphasize interdepartmental and all co-op communication and cooperation.
- Attend department meetings as scheduled.
MAINTENANCE:
- Keep storage area, shelves, coolers, bins in clean, orderly condition as specified by manager.
- Remove trash promptly, sweep and mop as needed.
- Break down boxes, clean cases, wipe surfaces, wash sink and buckets regularly.
- Keep department equipment in assigned area, in working order.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Successful experience in retail produce sales; demonstrated exceptional customer service; knowledge of Nutritional content and cooking methods, Knowledge of organic growing methods.
- Proven success working as team member.
- Computer literacy and math aptitude.
- Ability to work in cold, wet conditions.
