Description
Classification Purpose : The primary purpose of the Plumber classification position is to maintain, build and improve plumbing and drainage systems in county facilities and structures.
Job Duties : Repair, install, place and perform preventative maintenance on plumbing systems. Read and interpret blueprints and install pumps, valves, controls and plumbing fixtures. Sweat and braze copper pipe up to four inches. Insulate pipes and clean corrosion from piping and valves. Clean clogged drains using chemicals or plumbing devices and install commodes, sinks, tubs and showers. Examine, test, install, maintain, certify and file backflow prevention devices w / the City of Columbus. Must maintain documents. Prepare work area by removing furniture and other items and ensure other items in the work area are protected. Maintain tools properly and perform site clean-up. Maintain inventory on parts and supplies used, order parts with approved purchase orders, and prepare daily work reports and job assignments accomplish. Maintain regular and predictable attendance.

Major Worker Charactistics : Knowledge of safety practices; agency policy and procedures. Skill in skilled trade; equipment operation. Ability to understand system of mechanical or other procedures; apply principles to solve practical, everyday problems; calculate fractions, decimals and percentages; understand manuals and verbal instructions, technical in nature; work alone on most tasks; demonstrate strength to lift up to 100 lbs.; demonstrate strength to move objects from one location to another.
Minimum Class Qualification for Employment : Any equivalent combination of relevant training and experience including but not limited to : Vocational / Technical degree with training emphasis in plumbing and five (5) years of commercial plumbing experience.
Additional Requirements : No special license or certification is required.
Supervisory Responsibilities : None required.
Unusual Working Conditions : May be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) to perform duties.
