Description
Under the general supervision of the Assistant Highway Design Engineer, prepares design plans using AutoCAD or other means for new highway construction and maintenance projects for contract sales; checks consultant generated plans for compliance with design regulations; performs checks on consultant and internal plans in regards to quantities, hydraulic calculations on pipe systems, profile grades and other geometric details; assists in preparation of addenda as needed during the bidding process.
Assists the Senior Highway Design Technician in the preparation of force account work for highway, bridge and drainage crews and township requests; prepares project exhibits for use in funding applications.
Assists the Development Coordinator in the coordination, tracking, and review of developer plans that fall under the jurisdiction of the County Engineer; attends Franklin County Technical Review Committee meetings.
Provides construction inspection as needed on highway projects.
Performs other related duties as required.
E.I. (Engineer Intern) registration required by end of 6-month probationary period. Current Pay Range for E.I. is $39.05 to $46.08.
P.E. (Professional Engineer) registration preferred. Current Pay Range for P.E. is $41.83 to $49.36.
Typical Qualifications
Completion of undergraduate coursework for major in engineering as required by college or university attended; OR 24 months experience in engineering specialty area assigned (i.e., supervision of personnel engaged in inspecting transportation construction projects; design & development of construction contract plans); 24 months experience in using algebraic, trigonometric & strength of material calculations; OR any combination of the above education & experience equaling two years. Academic experience in CAD software required, industry experience preferred.

Vacation leave is provided to all non-seasonal employees based on their years of service.
Sick leave is provided to all non-seasonal employees, with full-time employees earning approximately 15 days per year.
Full-time, non-seasonal employees receive 40 hours of Personal leave each year that must be used during the year or forfeited.
The County provides 11 paid Holidays per year.
The Franklin County Engineer's Office provides uniforms based on the position. As needed, steel-toed boots are also provided.
