This is a seasonal, temporary position for the Spring & Summer months. Base pay is $14.25/hr. An additional $2.00/hr will be granted to those with a CDL.

Job Summary

This job involves working closely with the Chemical Applicator II. The work involves identifying noxious weeds, working with herbicides, and assisting supervisors with shop work. This job involves mixing and applying chemical and materials to roadside rights-of-way to control noxious vegetation, all related paperwork, and the maintenance of application equipment. It also involves processing household hazardous materials for storage and shipment.

Essential Functions

  • Sprays and controls noxious weeds along roadside rights-of-way; some bare ground spraying;
  • Prepares tank mixes to spray on identified noxious weeds;
  • Loads chemicals under the supervision of Chemical Applicator II;
  • Takes responsibility for unloading the empties from the vehicle daily;
  • Washes vehicle daily;
  • Washes and services sprayers under the direction of the Lead Chemical Applicator or Chemical Applicator II (including backpack sprayers);
  • Maintains a neat appearance around buildings and surrounding areas;
  • Helps maintain shop in an orderly fashion;
  • Assists in shop work;
  • Assists in Recycle Center when needed;
  • Assists in processing Household Hazardous Waste by the following categories:
  • Bulk used oil, anti-freeze and oil-based paints;
  • Bulk and recycle latex paint;
  • Paints equipment and facilities;
  • Performs related work as required.

Secondary Functions

Knowledge Of

  • Spraying equipment including use and minor repairs;
  • How to properly load chemicals in truck.

Skill In

  • Communicating a positive attitude, empathy, energy and helpfulness to customers or co-workers, and to provide the assistance customers or co-workers need;
  • Mixing and applying chemical;
  • Maintenance of application equipment;
  • Interpreting weather conditions as it pertains to applying chemicals.

Ability To

  • Identify noxious weeds;
  • Work effectively with co-workers and supervisors;
  • Load chemicals;
  • Wash trucks and equipment with high pressure washer;
  • Use basic math.

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations

  • Must hold a valid Class C motor vehicle operator's license.

Required Education and/or Experience

  • High school diploma or G.E.D.;
  • six months to twelve months related experience or training;
  • or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Education and/or Experience

  • Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school;
  • or one year to two years related experience and/or training;
  • or equivalent combination of education and experience.
