SUMMARY
The Production Shears Manager will manage and coordinate activity in the Shears Department to ensure that operations are carried out efficiently and safely in all areas.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Ensure all employees receive training in the proper use of equipment, enforce safety regulations, assign tasks, oversee employee’s daily work.
Manage the Shears Department:
Assure the maintenance of these departments daily
Schedule manpower
Review employee hours
Participate in interviewing, onboarding, and training new candidates
Responsible for disciplinary action
Meet and communicate with all department managers daily
Meetings with Shears teams daily
Review daily production from previous day and delays
Conduct root cause analysis on each delay
Communication with Sales to ensure shipment of proper materials to sales and customers
Continuous learning of Furnace and Slitter Operations
Operate furnace pulpit and Mill pulpit as #5 backup
Communication of production changeovers and rolling schedule
Ensure that safety is the number one priority for Franklin Industries
Promote safety practices
Correct unsafe conditions and behaviors
Assign employees with work orders to complete production needs
Review CMMS work orders, enter correctly and verify completed work before closing
Keep a current job manual, including a daily/weekly/monthly/yearly checklist
Watch and abide by all safety protocols.
Follow Lock out Tag out (LOTO) guidelines
Update skills and training matrix for Mill and Shear employees
Provide leadership and motivation
Active member of FI Safety Committee
Complete annual evaluations for employees
Establish and maintain continuous improvement (2 Second Lean), problem solving (KATA technique), and Root Cause analysis.
Maintain ISO 9001;2015 departmental standards.
Create PM’s for department equipment
Assign proper maintenance work orders and PM’s for department and equipment
Distribute all work orders, dashboard, checklists, and training paperwork
Time card and updates for payroll (ex: employee vacation days off, employee schedule)
Daily, weekly, monthly, and annual mill delay charts and data collection.
Daily roll shop data collection.
Communicate regularly and effectively with President, and/or CEO
QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma or higher education certificate
- 5-7 years of experience in a manufacturing environment
- Ability to read blueprints.
- General knowledge of roll and pass design
- Mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
- Understanding mill sections and stands
- Understanding mill rolls and locations
- Understanding of rail steel rolling fundamentals
- Knowledge of operating all department machinery and equipment
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office programs. i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access
- Intermediate/advanced computer skills to enter data into inventory system
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to multi-task and work with a high degree of accuracy
- Ability to work in a safe manner
- Organized and detail-oriented
- Sage 100 software efficiency and knowledge
WORKING CONDITIONS
- This is a safety-sensitive position; you will be working around and/or operating heavy machinery
- PPE required
- Office/shop environment – temperatures will vary
- Working around mechanical parts and vibrations
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to climb on, off, and around equipment
- Ability to sit, stand, and walk for periods of time
- Ability to lift item (occasionally very heavy, in excess of 50 pounds)
