What are the responsibilities and job description for the Library Director position at Franklin Township Public Library?
The Board of Trustees of the Franklin Township Free Public Library located in Franklinville, NJ, seeks an enthusiastic, experienced director to lead our newly renovated library into the future by providing residents with opportunities for cultural enrichment, education, and community engagement. Franklin Township is a rural, 56 square mile area located in Gloucester County, NJ, with a population of approximately 17,000 people. While the library is a municipal library, it is part of the LOGIN Consortium which consists of 22 other libraries.
Responsibilities: Under the general direction of the nine-member Library Board of Trustees, the Director is responsible for all library operations and overall administration and management of the library. Specific areas of responsibility include board relations; planning, organization, and evaluation of library services; general administration and financial management; internal and external communications; and professional and staff development.
Qualifications/Requirements: A master’s degree in Library or Information Science from an institution accredited by the American Library Association or from a New Jersey college that has been deemed acceptable by Thomas Edison State College; a minimum of at least five years of progressively increasing administrative/managerial responsibility, preferably in a municipal public library. Must reside in the state of New Jersey as required by the New Jersey First Act (R.S.52:14-7).
