We are currently accepting applications for a school nurse with certification as LPN starting in the 2025-2026 School Year.
This position is a 10-month school position.
The location of work (ES or HS) will be determined by experience and certification.
The minimum starting pay for an LPN is $17.25/hour.
LPN The work involves assisting a School Nurse and School Physician in providing student care. The work is performed in accordance with detailed and well-defined rules. Assignments concerning student care are given specifically and supervised closely by the School Nurse and in accordance with orders prescribed by a Physician, within the framework of case finding, health teaching, health counseling, and provision of supportive and restorative care. A Licensed Practical Nurse does related work as required.
LPN Essential Functions:
· Monitors and reports back to Registered Nurse or School Physician any changes to student's health;
· Assists School Nurse or School Physician in the conduct of eye, hearing and scoliosis testing of students;
· Administers first aide treatments to students or employees;
· Weighs and measures height of students and records information;
· Measures student blood pressure;
· Arranges to transport sick or injured students to hospital, home or doctor's or dentist office;
· Administers certain medications upon specific instructions of a physician or the School Nurse;
· Maintains student medical history records;
· Orders, inventories and stores first aid and related health supplies and equipment;
· Assists in the preparation of records and reports as required.
· Performs other related tasks as assigned by supervisors or other administrators.
LPN Qualifications:
· Possession and maintenance of a license to practice as a Practical Nurse by the New York State Department of Education.
· Current certification in Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).

Equipment:
· Uses medical equipment to provide health care to students/staff, including, but not limited to, blood glucose monitor, stethoscopes, thermometers, sphygmomanometers.
· Uses personal computers.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
· Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, symptoms, diagnoses, treatments, first aid, illnesses and injuries, nutrition, and related areas.
· Ability to diagnose and provide care for ill or injured students.
· Ability to convey appropriate medical information to school district staff or medical professionals to ensure a proper maintenance in the school setting.
· Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide, and perform arithmetic operations as needed for position.
· Ability to understand, apply and use personal computers and software applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, the Internet, Outlook, electronic mail).
· Ability to problem solve job-related issues.
· Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals and students with special needs.
· Ability to follow oral and written orders from supervisors, administrators, physicians, and to coordinate work with principal, teachers and others.
· Ability to describe orally and in writing school health services provided, issues and concerns regarding school health.
· Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff and others contacted in the course of work.
Safety Requirements:
· Adheres to all applicable professional safety standards and practices in the nursing field, including requirements set forth in federal and state law, and Occupational Safety and Health regulations.
· Implements Board Policy regarding Blood Borne Pathogens and other Board policies regarding the medical or health care of employees and students.
Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards:
· Work in standard school building environment.
· Exposure to body secretions, blood borne pathogens, medicine and medicinal supplies, illnesses and diseases.
