The Plant HR Manager is responsible for managing employee relations activities at designated branch plant locations. This role involves ensuring the application of federal and state laws such as EEOC, FMLA, ADA, HIPAA, COBRA, NLRB, and others, to protect the company from litigation and maintain a non-union environment where applicable. The HR Manager will conduct surveys on employee morale, local wages / benefits, and other employment issues, providing management with reports and recommendations. The role works closely with management to communicate, train, and assist employees to maintain high levels of morale. The HR Manager may also support local hourly recruitment efforts, including diversity hiring, employee tracking, and interviewing. Additionally, they will advise and participate in counseling employees and management regarding policies, procedures, legal requirements, employee performance, discipline, benefits, and restructuring.
Key Responsibilities :
- Participate in the selection process for salaried and key leadership positions at the plant.
- Drive a structured interview process for plant positions.
- Identify trends or concerns in hourly hiring and workforce planning and take appropriate action to address them.
- Ensure compliance with corporate policies, procedures, and legal standards during the hiring process.
- Integrate diversity and inclusion efforts into the recruitment process.
- Partner with plant management to implement initiatives to improve plant capabilities, capacity, and succession planning.
- Oversee the onboarding of new managers and support their transition into new roles.
- Work with corporate compensation teams to design effective compensation programs suited to the local environment.
- Communicate pension and retirement program details effectively to employees.
- Implement compensation changes consistently, including spot bonuses, job structures, and base rates.
- Ensure training on compensation and benefits is conducted for local resources, addressing concerns as needed.
- Ensure proper communication of general wage increases within the plant.
- Stay informed about new laws and regulations and assist with their implementation at the plant level.
- Demonstrate a solid understanding of the company’s talent management processes and identify performance issues when needed.
- Conduct annual harassment and workplace violence training.
- Participate in local SPS and HR initiatives.
- Ensure completion of diversity, inclusion, and unconscious bias training (when available).
- Promote the use of training and development resources such as the company’s learning platform.
- Provide guidance to employees on concerns or issues, including performance and disciplinary matters.
- Apply policy knowledge to address employee situations (e.g., attendance issues).
- Facilitate open discussions and meetings for conflict resolution and complaints.
- Build positive relationships with both salaried and hourly employees.
- Develop relationships with local union representatives and ensure proper administration of contracts.
- Resolve grievances in collaboration with the Labor Relations team.
- Utilize relevant systems for operational activities, such as KRONOS, SIMON, and Workday.
- Understand key business processes enabled by these systems, including payroll, IT requests, and benefits.
- Establish effective working relationships with internal business partners to gain trust and respect.
- Balance the interests of employees and the business.
- Demonstrate strong multitasking abilities.
