Summary: Under close supervision, is responsible to perform a wide variety of grounds maintenance activities: refuse collection, weed control, landscape, irrigation and hardscape maintenance, shrub pruning, snow removal, and set up and takedown for campus events; serves as emergency essential personnel as directed. Willing to work a flexible schedule depending on weather constraints.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
- Performs on-going grounds maintenance, including refuse collection, weed control, and mulch and fertilizer applications.
- Performs annual and perennial display bed maintenance, including manual irrigation, pruning, weeding, edging and mulch and fertilizer applications.
- Performs turf maintenance, including mowing, trimming, edging, fertilization and other cultural related practices inherent to turf maintenance.
- Provides proper upkeep of sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, planters, benches, artwork and other grounds related features.
- Maintains irrigation systems, including winterizing the systems and starting them up in spring.
- Performs snow removal related tasks.
- Performs basic maintenance on equipment used
- Performs duties to set-up and take down of equipment for various events that occur on campus
- May serve as a member of the emergency essential personnel staff in the Facilities Services division and be required to report to work during a closing to assist in carrying out the services of the university.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
