Position Summary
The Compliance Officer is responsible for ensuring the behavioral health facility operates in full compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies. This includes state and federal healthcare standards, patient rights, privacy regulations (e.g., HIPAA), and ethical practices. The Compliance Officer leads internal audits, provides staff training, and acts as a liaison between the facility and regulatory bodies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and manage the facility’s compliance program.
- Ensure adherence to federal and state regulations, including HIPAA, OSHA, CMS, and behavioral health-specific requirements.
- Conduct internal audits to assess compliance risks and operational integrity.
- Investigate complaints or allegations of non-compliance and recommend corrective actions.
- Maintain incident reporting and compliance documentation systems.
Qualifications.
- Bachelor’s degree in health administration, Legal Studies, Compliance, or a related field (master’s preferred).
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a healthcare compliance role, preferably in behavioral health.
- Strong knowledge of healthcare regulations including HIPAA, CMS, and state-specific mental health laws.
- Experience conducting internal audits and investigations.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- High level of integrity and discretion in handling confidential information.
Key Skills & Competencies
- Certification in Healthcare Compliance (e.g., CHC, CCEP) strongly preferred. Key Skills & Competencies.

- Detail-oriented and organized.
- Knowledge of behavioral health operational standards.
- Skilled in report writing and presenting findings.
