As a Software Development Engineer, you’ll play a crucial role in developing a complex ground system for the U.S. Government customers.
Job Summary
As a Software Development Engineer on the Freedom Team, you will play a pivotal role building and maintaining a stable, scalable, and secure platform to support mission-critical applications. Your responsibilities will include designing, deploying, and optimizing containerized applications in our cloud-hosted environment. You will write efficient, testable code to automate platform operations and develop tools to enable system observability. In this role, you will also conduct rigorous testing to meet the highest standards of reliability, security, and performance. Success in this role requires strong problem-solving skills, a deep understanding of software engineering principles, and close collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to deliver a resilient foundation for mission-critical software systems.

Responsibilities
- Achieve rapid expertise in the existing Freedom Platform codebase
- Analyze system requirements to create and maintain functional, scalable software
- Champion new software projects following proven quality and security design patterns
- Provide input on software design decisions and contribute to long-term tech strategy
- Conduct peer reviews with focus on quality assurance and best practices
- Practice strong code coverage through unit and integration testing
- Participate in Agile/Scrum meetings; create feature & bug tickets, contribute to planning, progress updates, and sprint reviews
- Build the Freedom Platform with consideration for maintainability and deployability
- Support Operations in anomaly investigations and on-call duties
- Create and maintain excellent documentation for source code, APIs, and system architecture to facilitate knowledge sharing and customer-facing documentation
- Stay current with emerging technologies, programming languages, and development methodologies to incorporate innovative solutions
- Optimize performance-critical systems for speed and resource efficiency
- Regularly eliminate Common Vulnerabilities & Exposures across the platform
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field
- Excellent programming skills in Java, Rust, Python, or other languages
- 5-10 years of experience in software development
- Demonstrated ability to design, develop, and maintain software solutions
- Strong understanding of software design patterns and object-oriented programming
- Strong knowledge of unit/integration testing, and debugging tools & methodologies
- Strong understanding of various interfaces, i.e. SQL, JSON, RESTful APIs
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD)
- Ability to analyze complex algorithmic problems and design effective solutions
- Highly motivated, detail-oriented, and intellectually curious
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) or other cloud services
- Knowledgeable with satellite communications concepts and methods
- Possess or be eligible for a Top-Secret Clearance
