The Shipping and Receiving Specialist will be responsible for managing both inbound and outbound shipments. This includes organizing and prioritizing shipments, verifying and processing incoming materials, ensuring order accuracy, and maintaining inventory. The role will require close attention to detail, coordination with various departments, and timely handling of shipping and receiving operations.
Duties/Responsibilities:

Shipping Responsibilities:
- Organize, prioritize, and process LTL (Less Than Truckload) shipments, including setting up carriers, printing pick lists, and preparing shipping documents (labels, packing lists, bills of lading).
- Verify LTL rate accuracy and ensure the proper timing of confirmations.
- Prepare orders for shipment, including organizing, wrapping, and ensuring packages are shipped accurately and safely.
- Pull and package parts for shipment as required, including obtaining weight and dimensions of products being shipped.
- Use carrier websites to arrange pickup and/or delivery of products.
- Maintain accurate inventory records and assist with cycle counting and inventory management.
- Assist in daily warehouse operations as needed, including managing the shipping area’s organization.
- Drive a forklift as needed to support shipping operations and assist with loading/unloading.
- Perform other shipping-related duties as assigned.

Receiving Responsibilities:
- Receive goods and verify the quality and quantity of items unloaded from trucks, trailers, and railroad cars, comparing them to suppliers' counts.
- Report discrepancies or damaged goods to the shipping manager, purchasing manager, and project manager immediately.
- Retrieve and process packing slips and bills of lading for all inbound material.
- Inspect material for any damage or discrepancies and verify product quality before accepting.
- Stage all received materials in the designated areas, such as the inbound “alley,” welding staging rack, and other relevant zones.
- Prioritize the receiving of materials for production departments, including machine, weld, and paint shops.
- Verify and inspect ductile iron pipe and other materials according to packing slips and MTR (Material Test Reports).
- Assist with unloading trucks, stocking inventory, and processing will-call pick-ups.
- Communicate with warehouse staff about incoming shipments, processing needs, and other relevant details.
- Maintain a clean and organized receiving area at all times.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks.
- Ability to accurately count, verify, and inspect incoming and outgoing goods.
- Familiarity with shipping and receiving paperwork, including bills of lading, packing slips, and shipping labels.
- Basic understanding of warehouse, dock, and railway procedures.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and/or inventory software to maintain records, input data, and generate reports.
- Understanding of hazardous materials regulations and proper handling procedures.
- Good communication skills and ability to work with different departments effectively.
- Ability to stay organized and meet shipping deadlines while managing inventory.
- Reliable means of transportation required for commute.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- State motor vehicle operator’s permit for forklift operation highly preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to traverse a distribution warehouse and access a variety of storage spaces and shelving units by stretching, squatting, and reaching.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds at a time.
- Ability to work in varying weather conditions and temperatures in both warehouse and loading dock environments.
