Summary
Primary function of this role is to supervise transportation functions and staff in the Transportation Department.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Direct and coordinate documentation and routing of outgoing freight and verification and re-shipment of incoming freight
- Schedule shipments to ensure compliance with interstate traffic laws and regulations and company policies
- Investigate shipper or consignee complaints regarding lost or damaged merchandise or shortages in shipment to determine responsibility
- Direct preparation of claims against carrier responsible and corresponds with shipper or consignee to effect settlement
- Provide freight estimates for international airfreight, ocean freight, customs clearance fees, on-site freight costs to sales staff and project managers
- Provide freight estimates for domestic shipments to sales staff and project managers
- Setup accounts with freight vendors and negotiate discounts
- Provide production and warehouse personnel weekly shipping schedule report
- Coordinate U. S. Customs clearance for returning international shipments
- Track all freight shipments and request delivery verification
- Advise shop and warehouse personnel shipping and packing requirements for international shipments
- Arrange bank guarantees as needed for international shipments
- Travel to show site as needed to supervise freight move-in or move-out
- Assist Management as necessary with the review of incoming invoices for accuracy, notification of vendors or discrepancies, verifying we have received the appropriate discounts and resolution of problems in consultation with Accounts Payable
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university; or one to two (1-2) years related experience and/or training
- Must have a working knowledge of traffic management, carriers and ICC regulations
- Familiarity with DOT requirements
- Must have attention to detail, and strong service orientation
- Must have ability to operate under severe time constraints
- Must be skilled in the use of computer software such as Word, Excel and Access
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization
