Job Overview
This post is a rare opportunity for a Physiotherapist to join the Orthopaedic Research team. We are a multidisciplinary team that delivers research across both the Royal Victoria Infirmary and Freeman Hospital sites in elective ortho, trauma and sarcoma, as well as working closely with Plastics Research. Newcastle Hospitals is home to a Major Trauma Centre, the North of England Bone and Soft Tissue Tumour Service, and the Regional Burns Service, among other specialist services, affording us the opportunity to work on a wide variety of studies and trials.
This post will predominantly be based at the RVI working in trauma research, but there may be a need for cross-site and cross-specialty working.
Our service runs Monday to Friday, and can involve early starts and occasional late finishes, however there are no weekend or on-call commitments.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
Under the direction of the orthopaedic research coordinator, to be responsible for the day-to-day running of specified clinical trials involving orthopaedic patients undergoing joint replacement surgery. This will include the recruitment, assessment and ongoing follow-up of patients for specific trials.

- Degree or Equivalent Diploma in Physiotherapy
- Registered with Health and Care Professions Council
- Master’s degree or willing to undertake qualification in health / research related topic
Essential criteria
- Previous post registration experience to include some at Senior Level within the specialty
- Highly specialised knowledge in musculoskeletal and orthopaedic physiotherapy, especially joint replacement
- Evidence of formal post-graduate courses and CPD.
- Knowledge of research methodology
- Basic knowledge of statistics in medical research.

- Excellent communicational and interpersonal skills
- IT skills including experience of Microsoft Office
