Position Purpose
Cotopaxi School is hiring a hardworking individual to help manage outdoor spaces. This may include grass and hedge trimming, fertilizer application, weed control, planting and irrigating fields and lawns. This is a seasonal part time hourly position spring though fall, maximum 10 hours a week.
Essential Job Functions
- Safely use a lawn mower, and other tools to trim grass and edge lawn areas
- Apply seed, fertilizer, herbicides, and insecticides
- Understand the irrigation systems and water lawns/fields
- Wear protective clothing and equipment; ear, eye, etc.
- Maintain and water plants, flower beds, and underlying soil
- Operate backpack blower and gather leaves, hedge trimmings, and debris for removal
- Use pruners and trimmers to remove shrub and tree overgrowth
- Plant flowers, shrubs, trees, and turf
- Drive work trucks
- Operate lawn care tools and equipment
- Log hours accurately using a computer

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and reliable transportation
- Able to repeatedly lift and move 50 pounds
- Able to sit, stand, kneel, and lift
- Able to work in all weather conditions
- Strong communication skills
- Strong work ethic and positive attitude
- Self-starter who can manage time effectively
- Willing to learn and to follow instructions
- Can work independently
- Experience using lawn care equipment preferred (e.g., lawn mowers, hedge trimmers, pruning saws, weed eaters)
Work hours:
- Part-time, spring through fall
- Maximum 10 hours per week
Compensation:
- $14.50 per hour
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand; walk; sit; use hands and fingers to handle, or feel.
- The work requires the use of telephone and using fingers to operate computer or typewriter keyboards.
- The employee is continually hearing and speaking to exchange information.
- The employee is required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Ability to be on feet up to eight hours every day. The work is mostly walking and standing with periods of sitting.
- Typical positions require workers to lift and carry up to 50 pounds; climb stairs, bend and crouch; reach, hold, grasp and turn objects; use fingers to operate computer or typewriter keyboards; and feel the shape, size and temperature of objects.
- The work requires the ability to speak normally, to use normal or aided vision and hearing, and to detect odors. identify colors, see, write, count, read, speak, analyze, alphabetize, perceive depth, operate a motor vehicle, and operate motor equipment.
- Conditions include working inside and outside, working around machines with moving parts and moving objects, working closely with others, working alone, and traveling by car, van, bus.
