The Embassy of France in Washington, DC, hires a full-time employee for the position of :
Protocol assistant at the Office of the Secretary general of the Embassy of France
starting September 3rd 2022
Job title : assistant for protocol affairs at the HR department of the secretary general
Main duties :
- Protocol : processing requests regarding the status of the French diplomatic personnel, their privileges and immunities :
- Notifications of appointment and termination of the personnel;
- Renewal of diplomatic passports and visas for the staff ;
- Diplomatic cars registration (plates), Department of State driving licenses ;
- Customs clearance and any customs process related to diplomatic personnel ;
- Employment authorizations for spouses of diplomatic personnel.
- Protocol : carrying out procedures with the Department of State about the French governmental network in the United States
- Processing requests regarding the French honorary consuls and consular agencies
(creation, modification, appointment, in coordination with French consulates general) ;
- Updating the lists of properties and vehicles of the French Government in the United
States ;
- Non-objection procedures for scientific personnel ;
- Daily dialogue with the Department of State (OFM), formal and informal ;
- Drafting diplomatic notes on these issues.
- Support to the HR department for the day-to-day management of staff and payroll
- Management of the administrative files of the locally-engaged staff (contracts) ;
- Support to the preparation and verification of the payroll of the local staff ;
- Creation of staff files and profiles in the HR internal software.

Required qualifications, training and experience :
- Clerical or administration skills and experience ;
- Legal affairs training would be appreciated ;
- Previous experience in a diplomatic and consular network,preferably French, would be a serious asset ;
- Profile sought: a person with experience in the functioning of American administrations (DMV, SSA, etc.) who intend to keep working in DC for a while.
Languages : Bilingual in French and in English is absolutely mandatory.
The communication within the Embassy is 100% in French but the applicant must be able to communicate perfectly fluently with American administrations.
Computer skills : Mastering of Word, Excel and Outlook.

Special working conditions (special obligations, flexible hours, etc.):
- Trial period: 6 months ;
- Working time: 40 hours/week (full time) ;
- 25 days of paid vacation leave/year public holidays ;

- This position does not grant any kind of diplomatic or consular status or privilege ;
- Will work under the supervision of the deputy secretary general within a 7-employee team.
Salary: Level 4: $ 4851 / month (gross) transportation benefit of $ 120 monthly.

Conditions for applying:
- You must be a legal U.S. resident, which means you must have a Green Card or U.S. citizenship, or you must have a valid visa and employer authorization document

- French citizenship is not required but an excellent command in French is mandatory.
