Job Description
The Charge Nurse plays a crucial role in ensuring the continuity of care, maintaining patient and staff safety, and overseeing the delivery of safe, effective, and quality outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide guidance, support, and direction to direct patient care staff, offering informal feedback and formal feedback for annual performance evaluations.
- Evaluate and implement changes in patient care/treatment as directed by physicians.
- Maintain overall shift operation in a safe, efficient, and effective manner.
- Assess daily patient care needs and develop patient care assignments accordingly.
- Collaborate with direct patient care team to make decisions that benefit patient care.
Additional Responsibilities
- Admit new patients according to facility procedure.
- Ensure educational needs of patients are met and educate patients and families about End Stage Renal Disease, dialysis therapy, diet, and medication.
- Promote efficient use of medical supplies.
- Attend and participate in monthly Quality Assurance meetings.
Requirements
- Minimum of 12 months of nursing experience, plus 6 months of specialized experience providing clinical nursing care to dialysis patients.
- Certified in CPR or successfully complete course in CPR certification.
- Good communication skills – verbal and written.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
- Day-to-day work includes desk and personal computer work, interaction with patients, facility staff, and physicians.
- The work environment is characteristic of a healthcare facility with air temperature control and moderate noise levels.
