GENERAL PURPOSE

The Community Partnerships Coordinator will build relationships and help grow partnerships with community organizations, schools, and government officials. They will continue to help build the Zoo’s presence in the community and help organize community events. This position will support the Zoo’s commitment to equity both internally and in the community. The coordinator will support the government affairs work of Fresno Chaffee Zoo. 

 

Full-Time employees receive our comprehensive compensation package which includes 100% employer paid Medical/Dental/Vision, Employee Assistance Program, 401k, 10 Paid Holidays, Paid Sick and Paid Vacation time on an accrued basis. The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $27.00 per hour. Offers will be based on the successful candidate's experience.

 

 

 

ESSENTIAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Act as a liaison between Zoo staff, government officials, and community members under the direction of the Director of Community Partnerships and the Chief of Education and Engagement.

  • Assist in developing programs that meet the needs of the Zoo, the community, and government officials. 

  • Monitor and communicate on government policies and actions that directly affect conservation, zoos and aquariums, and the community.

  • Create documents that reflect FCZ’s reach in the community. 

  • Stay up to date on the best practices for partnering and building relationships with the local community and government officials. 

  • Upon request, travel to and attend community events and meetings; be willing to work flexible or extended hours (including evenings and weekends as needed). 

  • Work with FCZ staff, FCZ leadership, and external partners to plan and deliver events like Pride Day, Black History Month, Autism Awareness Day, etc.

  • Research and analyze FCZ’s reach into the community, specifically through tracking and entering departmental data. 

  • Work with Education, Marketing, Development, Accounting, and other departments to support and promote the good work of the Zoo, particularly with community-based organizations and government officials. 

  • Strong public speaking skills. Ability to listen, learn, and to speak about the mission of the Zoo. 

  • Ability and knowledge to communicate and coordinate with colleagues, community members, and government offices. 

  • Act as administrative support for the Chief of Education and the Director of Community Partnerships. 

  • Participate in developing strategies and deliverables to help connect the Zoo to our surrounding communities.     

  • Perform other duties as assigned, including requests from other management team members as needed.

EDUCATION AND JOB QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate degree required.
  • Applicants must meet one or more of the following qualifications to be considered:
    • Bachelor's degree in public policy, Public Administration, Nonprofit Management, Business   Administration, or other related field.
    • Minimum of four (4) years of community work.
    • Minimum of two (2) full years of relevant work experience in the Central Valley.
  • A valid California driver's license, valid vehicle insurance, enrolled in the CA Employer Pull Notice program and successful completion of the FCZ Drivers Training Program required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite required. 
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn Canva, Teams, Zoom, and Trello.
  • Previous experience coordinating events is preferred.
  • Bilingual preferred. 

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Close visual acuity to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures, viewing a computer terminal, and extensive reading.  Color perception is also required.
  • Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication (in person and via telephone), at normal speaking levels with or without correction.
  • Expressing or exchanging ideas using the spoken word. The employee must convey detailed or important spoken information to others in individual and small group settings.
  • Hand and finger dexterity sufficient for typing and other administrative tasks.
  • The employee is regularly required to lift and/or carry up to 10 pounds and occasionally up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to walk or stand for an extended period at Zoo or community events and tours.  

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • This position regularly involves working with others, including Zoo executives and employees.
  • The position functions indoors and is frequently exposed to outdoor zoo environments and external events.  
  • Regular office hours are 8 am–5 pm, with flexible or extended hours as needed, including nights, weekends, and holidays.  
  • Occasional travel is considered a necessary component of this position. A valid driver's license is required. 
  • Completes various other work-related duties as assigned by the Director of Community Partnerships or the Chief of Engagement and Education. These duties and responsibilities may be added, deleted, or changed at any time at the discretion of management, formally or informally, either verbally or in writing.
