Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Elementary School Paraprofessional to join our educational team. A paraprofessional working with students in special education (SPED) plays a critical role in supporting both the students and the teaching staff. Here are some common job responsibilities for a paraprofessional in this setting:
Duties
Assist with Individualized Instruction:
- Support students with special needs by reinforcing lessons and providing individualized instruction under the direction of a licensed teacher.
- Implement educational plans tailored to each student’s specific goals as outlined in their Individualized Education Plan (IEP).
- Provide one-on-one or small group support to students during class activities or assignments.
Support Classroom Management:
- Assist in maintaining a positive and productive classroom environment.
- Help manage student behavior, including implementing strategies for students with behavioral challenges (as directed by the teacher).
- Monitor student progress and behavior, and provide feedback to the teacher.
Monitor Student Progress:
- Track student performance and behavior, providing feedback to the teacher on individual progress.
- Collect data on specific learning goals or behaviors for use in IEP meetings or progress reports.
- Provide support in assessments, testing, or evaluations under the teacher’s direction.
Assist with Communication:
- Help facilitate communication for students with speech or language challenges (e.g., using augmentative communication devices).
- Support students in expressing themselves and understanding instructions.
Support Social and Emotional Development:
- Encourage social interaction and support students in building peer relationships.
- Assist students in developing social and emotional skills by promoting appropriate interactions and self-regulation strategies.
- Help students manage anxiety, frustration, or other emotional challenges.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: From $18.04 per hour
