Position Title: Accountant

Classification: Non-Exempt

Reports to: CFO 

Location: Hybrid/Remote 

Work Hours: Monday- Friday, Full-Time, 1.0 FTE. Flexible hours, some evenings, if needed

Friendship Place offers the most effective model for addressing homelessness, with innovative, customized programs with positive, demonstrable results and a lasting impact on the community and beyond. Our programs are person-centric and individualized to meet the needs and goals of individuals, families, youth/young adults, and Veterans experiencing homelessness. We provide outreach, hospitality, health care, case management, housing, job placement services, and advocacy.


Summary:

To perform the required day-to-day accounts payable, accounting duties, and other tasks that support the needs of the finance department.


Essential Job Duties:

  • Accounts Payable Specialist responsibilities include processing payments, verifying invoices, and performing account reconciliations as needed. 
  • Work with our accounting team to ensure the accuracy of the organization’s expenditures and the standardization of our accounting practices across the organization.
  • Manage accounts payable using accounting software and other programs.
  • Review and process check requests, ensuring proper recording to program/department.
  • Charges expenses to account and cost centers by analyzing invoices and recording entries on the general ledger.
  • Prepares payments by verifying documentation and requesting disbursements.
  • Process 1099’s on an annual basis.
  • Prepare allocations of health insurance expenditures monthly. 
  • Prepare journal entries.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly invoice processing by gathering supporting information.
  • Serve as the primary backup to the processing of bi-weekly payroll.
  • Creates reports, enters data, and performs ad hoc analyses for financial purposes as needed
  • Maintains financial security by following internal controls and following the financial manual.
  • Maintains confidence and protects operations by keeping financial information confidential.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Performs other duties as needed


Requirements

Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance is required
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office functions with an advanced emphasis in Excel is required.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills are required. 
  • At least two years of full-time accounting experience (accounts payable, accounts receivable, and/or general ledger accounting) are required.

Attention to Detail, Accuracy, Intermediate Excel skills, ability to manage a high volume of accounting, Deadline-Oriented, Reporting Research Results, Confidentiality, Time Management, Data Entry, Ready to learn more challenging and new financial tasks. Understand the importance of accuracy and proactively ask the right questions to learn the required or new software and accounting processes. Compensation: The hiring pay range is between $70,000 - $80,000 annually. The starting annual salary is based on a step system. A candidate’s starting pay determination is based on meeting the basic position requirements and having completed education, credentials, and/or work experience. Please Note: The step system is set and not open to pay negotiation.
