General Description / Objective
The Shipping & Receiving Coordinator plays a critical role in ensuring the effective and efficient operation of cattle shipment and receiving activities at the feedyard. This position requires coordination, communication, and attention to detail to maintain accurate cattle movement, support animal welfare, and uphold operational standards.
The role involves collaborating with various departments, ensuring timely processing of cattle, monitoring and preparing shipping/receiving facilities, and providing key updates to leadership.
Roles and Tasks
Coordinate daily and weekly shipping and receiving activities, including pre-shipment checklists, verifying headcounts, and managing scale tickets.
Maintain clear communication with Cattle Manager, Assistant Cattle Manager, and Cattle Clerk to ensure smooth operations and proper escalation of issues.
Inspect and maintain shipping and receiving facilities, ensuring cleanliness, functionality, and safety; report or complete maintenance as appropriate.
Oversee the unloading process, ensuring cattle are placed according to contract specs, verifying headcounts, and resolving discrepancies.
Review procurement systems daily to monitor expected loads, confirm receiving assignments, and communicate any surprises or irregularities.
Sort and separate cattle based on health, condition, or customer specifications, and report findings to appropriate leadership.
Schedule and assist with pen moves and processing work orders, coordinating with management and pen riders as needed.
Monitor and prepare feed bunks, water tanks, and receiving pens for incoming cattle, ensuring all facilities are ready and cleaned properly.
Support inventory tracking and Showlist management by using drone data and system reports to maintain accurate records.
Assist with night operations, weekend shipments, and provide backup coverage for lunch breaks or staffing shortages.
Profile / Professional Competencies
Education Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent required; post-secondary education in agriculture or livestock management preferred.
Minimum Experience Required:
Experience working with feedyard operations or livestock logistics preferred.
Strong organizational and time-management skills.
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Clear and effective communication skills.
Comfortable working in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
Reliable, adaptable, and committed to maintaining animal welfare and operational standards.
