Job Summary:
As the Assistant Program Manager for Planning, you will oversee long-range planning initiatives to preserve and redevelop the State Capitol Campus and DES-managed facilities statewide. This role is essential in shaping the future of key infrastructure and ensuring alignment with legislative and stakeholder goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead planning projects for the State Capitol Campus and DES-managed facilities, shaping long-term infrastructure strategies.
- Collaborate with state officials, agencies, and stakeholders to address campus growth and infrastructure needs effectively.
- Oversee project design, planning, and execution to ensure alignment with scope, budget, and timelines.
- Manage and mentor a team of up to 10 staff, including Senior Facilities and Environmental Planners, fostering professional growth.
- Represent DES in high-level meetings and advisory committees, serving as a key voice in planning discussions.
- Drive continuous improvement through LEAN practices and problem-solving initiatives to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.

- Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, architecture, public administration, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
- 8 years of management experience in public works, engineering, or urban planning.
- 2 years of supervisory experience leading teams.
Preferred:
- Professional license in architecture or engineering (Washington State).
- Strong knowledge of Washington’s GMA, SEPA, SMA, and other relevant laws.
- Expertise in urban design and visual communication tools.
- Familiarity with LEED standards and sustainable design concepts.
- Advanced skills in project/program management, public procurement methods, and strategic planning.
Salary Range:
Full Time - Permanent - $122,000.00 - $130,000.00 Annually |
Monday - Friday | 8AM - 5PM | HYBRID Thurston County – Olympia, WA
