In this position, you will provide supervision and direction to all other staff on shift. Provides direct treatment services in an inpatient setting to adults who are experiencing serious and/or chronic mental health disorders. This includes taking vital signs, administering medications, completing nursing assessments, and documenting patient responses. The charge nurse addresses issues, problem solves and seeks resolution to challenges that occur during their assigned shift and provides input to inpatient leadership pertaining to opportunities for process improvements.
SHIFT : Monday-Friday 3PM-11:30PM - Added Shift differential of 6.23% to base pay listed below for this shift.
LOCATION: Calispel Evaluation and Treatment Unit
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES AS A FLOOR RN include the following:
- Administer and monitor patient basic care utilizing the nursing process within the RN scope of practice.
- Medication administration/safety/monitoring.
- Carry out physicians’ orders as assigned.
- Demonstrate positive leadership and goal-oriented productivity within scope of practice.
- Carry out care plan objectives and goals.
- Assist in delivery of client education.
- Maintain standards of professional nursing practice in accordance with facility policies and procedures.
- Comply with all state WAC pertaining to a residential treatment facility 246-337.
- Facilitate therapeutic communication with patients, visitors, and co-workers.
- Complete thorough and timely incident reports as needed.
- Respond to a patient’s needs and concerns and escalate through supervisory chain as indicated.
- Complete thorough, accurate and complete reporting and documentation of patient’s symptoms, and progress.
- Effectively utilize customer service and motivational interviewing skills to promote appropriate patient centered care.
- Demonstrates flexibility in responding to change and in working with diverse groups and individuals.
- Other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES AS A CHARGE include the following:
1. Provide direct onsite supervision of all staff on assigned shifts ensuring staff are following processes, policies, and procedures.
2. Direct and coordinate staff assignments for all tasks associated with admits/discharges and patient care during assigned shift.
3. Provide direction in any emergency situations during their shift and notify the on-call manager as needed.
4. Provide direction and training to all staff on shift, in accordance with FBH and unit policy, and as assigned by the management team.
5. Provide/assist with all supervision required by staff on their assigned shift.
Includes but is not limited to:
- Clinical supervision
- Performance review and evaluation
- Recognition and disciplinary action
- Staff training and development
6. Maintain a collaborative working relationship and open communication with management team.
7. Ensure client information is appropriately shared during shift report.
8. Regularly communicate with ANM regarding successes, challenges, ideas, and process improvement opportunities.
9. Gain and maintain knowledge of inpatient policies and practices, and organization policies and procedures that impact inpatient services.
10. Attend charge nurse meetings scheduled by management team with the purpose of coordination with the management team and their charge nurse peers, and to receive information to take back to the staff on their assigned shifts.
11. Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFIED CANDIDATES WILL HAVE:
REQUIRED:
- Active RN license in the State of Washington at the time of hire.
- Active BLS within 90 days of hire and must maintain active BLS.
PREFERRED:
- 1-2 years' experience in Psychiatric setting.
- Previous inpatient experience.
- Previous experience as a charge nurse/unit lead
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Ability to communicate with individuals of various backgrounds, education levels and socio-economic status.
- Ability to foster a positive on-shift work culture and ensure processes, policies, and procedures are followed during the shift.
- Ability to respond to escalated situations, appropriately identify issues that need to be escalated to inpatient leadership and/or community resources.
- Ability to apply trauma-informed concepts and practices related to patient care.
- Must have basic computer skills including ability to document in an electronic medical record, use electronic time tracking, use of Outlook, Word, and HRIS.

PAY RANGE (Hourly/ Non-Exempt): $46.00-$56.05*
- All pay is based on longevity at Frontier Behavioral Health; thus, the starting base pay for this position is $46.00 per hour.
There is added shift differential of 6.23% to the base pay listed above for the Monday-Friday 3PM-11:30PM shift.
