We are now hiring for a Grain Commodity Originator to work at our David City, NE office. This position is being offered as full-time with benefits.
The Grain Commodity Originator role involves building strong relationships, working extensively with grain producers, and negotiating grain purchases. You must be able to make decisions and work independently, be detail oriented with excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
Essential duties:
- Establish and maintain professional long-term business relationships with grain producers.
- Respond to customer complaints, questions and requests in a timely manner.
- Market the company’s direct shipment grain program to new or current Frontier producers.
- Responsible for connecting with producers and originating bushels through Frontier Cooperative.
- Negotiate with producers off-the-farm grain purchases, coordinate settlements, prepare and distribute grain checks for purchases, and contracts.
- Collaborate internally (i.e. merchandisers, hedge desk, advisors, and accountants) to exchange information as needed.
- Customer communication of grain origination information to producers through texts, emails, phone calls, social media, and Frontier Connect.
- Maintain Frontier Cooperative’s reputation through careful and honest handling of customer relations.
- Prepare, maintain, and present record keeping data.
- Upon request or regularly scheduled intervals, prepare and provide grain origination records to state government agencies, auditors, CEO, and the Sr VP of Grain.
- Protect organization's value by keeping all grain and financial information confidential.
- Ensuring standards of health, safety, and security to customers, vendors and employees by following all company safety standards and regulations.
Job skills and requirements:
- Knowledge, skills and abilities in buying/selling commodities, organization, time management, accounting, general math, economics, information analysis, attention to detail, and verbal communication.
- Knowledge of the cooperative model, grain industry and the cash grain markets, ability to determine buying prices based on an assessment of the market, type, quality and grade of grains.
- Able to demonstrate teamwork and a high degree of confidentiality.
- Able to analyze and problem solve issues and reach positive resolution.
- Basic knowledge of cash and futures markets and hedging strategy.
- Basic knowledge of importance and impact of logistics impact on customer business.
- Ability to understand company management policies and assess the effectiveness of grain programs.
- Adhere to company standards and interact with and gain the cooperation of other employees and producers to maintain an effective working relationship.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions and percentages.
- Requires a valid operator’s license and ability to travel within the trade territory.
- Bachelor’s Degree in related field preferred, or equivalent combination of education, training, and/or agricultural experience.
