SUMMARY:
A Youth/Young Adult Peer Recovery Specialist works to provide hope, encouragement, support, self-determination, and connection to individuals served. Youth/Young Adult Peer Recovery Specialists help plan and implement supportive interactions, support groups, and activities for youth/young adults in services. A Youth/Young Adult Peer Recovery Specialist must be a young adult with lived experience who has met the criteria for a diagnosable mental, behavioral, substance use or emotional disorder at some point in their life. A Youth/Young Adult Peer Recovery Specialist must demonstrate stability in their own recovery for a significant period of time and demonstrate a willingness to identify self, at present, as a young adult in recovery.
EXPERIENCE:
Education: High School Diploma/GED required.
Licensure: Obtain and maintain a driver’s license with “F” endorsement within 30 days of hire. No endorsement required for VA residents.
Certification: Upon hire, obtain Certified Young Adult Peer Support Specialist (CYAPSS) and Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) from the State within required timeframe.
Experience: Past/present utilization of mental health services required.
Knowledge/Skills: Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to maintain composure in difficult situations.
Ability to safely operate a company vehicle.
Must have intermediate computer skills.
Must possess excellent interpersonal skills.
EQUIPMENT:
Computer, general office equipment, motor vehicle and any other equipment required to perform the functions of the position.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist in implementing/creating a recovery environment.
Obtain CEUs to maintain status as a Certified Young Adult Peer Support Specialist (CYAPSS) and Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS).
Attend relevant seminars, in-service trainings, including out of town trainings, as directed.
Share progress and barriers with other staff providers, as applicable.
Organize and lead peer support activities and groups.
Adhere to all program standards and require
Maintain documentation required for services.
Assist individuals in developing and achieving personal goals for recovery.
Attend and participate in required staff meetings and supervisions.
Assist individuals in developing natural supports.
Model personal responsibility, self-advocacy, and hopefulness via telling of their recovery story, how needs are respectfully met, and how a belief in themselves is maintained.
Demonstrate knowledge of and commitment to recovery philosophy.
Adhere to the state Peer Recovery Specialist Code of Ethics.
