Job Summary: Dental Assistant (Surgical Assistant, EFDA, RDA, CDA)
The Dental Assistant is an important part of the patient care delivery team. This role is directly responsible for assisting the providers with the clinical treatment of patients as deemed appropriate by state guidelines.
Duties and Responsibilities

Always ensure the care and welfare of patients in a friendly, helpful, and courteous manner.

Observe patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA guidelines.

Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols.

Accurately completes patient clinical records as directed by provider.

Educates patients by answering questions about procedures, treatment, and postoperative instructions as directed by the provider.

Presents and schedules treatment as needed and directed by the provider.

Provide chairside, clinical assistance, ensuring that the correct equipment and supplies are available.

Take radiographs as ordered by the provider.

Ensure that clinical tools and equipment are properly cleaned and sterilized before procedures begin.

Setting up and preparing for clinical procedures before the arrival of the patient.

Keep operatories stocked with necessary supplies.

Clean and disinfect all equipment and working surfaces to the required standards.

Keep the clinical areas and all equipment and instruments clean, tidy, and sterile as appropriate according to health and safety and infection control procedures and manufacturers’ instructions

Use all equipment and machinery in accordance with manufacturers’ recommendations and ensure that they are maintained regularly and in good working order

Be familiar and comply with all Health and Safety rules and guidance infection control and ensure safe disposal of sharps and clinical waste.

Complete laboratory request forms and/or perform applicable lab duties as assigned.

Assist other members of the team with patient care.

Other office tasks as assigned during clinical downtime.
Required Skills and Abilities

A good understanding of dental and surgical techniques, chairside responsibilities, and health and safety protocols.

Ability to provide empathetic patient care even under stressful circumstances

Consistent professionalism in appearance and attitude

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Superior interpersonal and customer service skills

Basic computer skills required and proficiency in MS products a plus
Education and Experience
-
Highschool diploma required.

Dental Assisting Certification per State Guidelines required

Additional clinical certifications and/or expanded functions preferred
-
BLS Certification required
-
6 months of prior clinical experience preferred.
-
Fluent in English required and Spanish as second language is a plus.
Physical Requirements
-
Ability to withstand prolonged periods of sitting at a desk, using a phone, and working at a computer.
-
Ability to move within the office as needed for patient care, cleaning, and meetings.
-
Ability to lift to 0-15 pounds if necessary.
