Purpose
Fryeburg Academy, a 700 student day and boarding high school in Western Maine and the Mount Washington Valley, seeks individuals to join our team as substitute teachers. Our substitute teachers work on an as needed, part-time basis to provide coverage during teacher absences. Whenever possible, our substitute coordinator will offer work opportunities to our substitutes in advance, however there will be occasions when we are seeking last minute coverage and will reach out in the early morning or evening hours. While we frequently need substitute coverage, we cannot guarantee an offer of daily work. The ideal candidate will interact with our students and staff, making an outgoing and friendly personality a plus. Substitute teachers should be prepared to work with students and staff from a variety of backgrounds and cultures, and with a range of academic interests and skills.

- Ability to work with, encourage, and inspire students to seek continuous growth
- Ability to follow sub plans, as left by the absent classroom teacher
- Excellent communications skills, both oral and written
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively while maintaining high professional standards
- The ideal candidate will be energetic and eager to work with both our local and international students
- A willingness to work with students of all backgrounds and abilities
- Prior classroom or teaching experience is a plus
- Bachelor’s degree preferred, but not required
- All Fryeburg Academy employees are subject to Maine Dept. of Education Criminal History Record Check
