The Director of Automation Projects is an experienced, tech-savvy leader with strong people leadership skills and a process-oriented background. This role will lead the engineering teams and project managers in the Industrial Automation and Heavy Moveable Structures space, driving project excellence, continuous improvement in tools and execution processes, and team skills development. This role will also be involved in customer-facing activities, developing capabilities and expertise within the group, and assisting in P&L management.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education : A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
Experience : 10 years of automation design or automation design management experience. 3 years of project management experience. 2 years of formal people management experience.
Education : An Associate’s Degree in Engineering or related field.
Experience : 15 years of automation design or automation design management experience. 3 years of project management experience. 2 years of formal people management experience.
Any combination of education and experience deemed appropriate by leadership.
Travel : 10-15%
Work Schedule : Typical work hours are between 7 : 00 a.m. and 5 : 00 p.m. Monday – Friday. However, work may be performed at any time on any day of the week to meet business needs.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Collaborates with Estimating and Project Managers on design intent & approach in response to RFPs and bid opportunities.
- Develops and continuously improves standards, repeatable processes and procedures to ensure repeatability and company success in the delivery of integrated projects. Monitors team conformance to established processes and procedures.
- Controls project activity to meet budgets and schedules. Assists with P&L management for the group.
- Works with Director & VP of Engineering to create and maintain standard processes and procedures; monitors on an ongoing basis to enhance QA-QC.
- Works with Director & VP of Engineering to set expenses, department and capital budgets.
- Partners with the Excellerate business units in developing product, manufacturing strategies, and manufacturing best practices.
- Ensures timely and accurate execution of the customer design & quote process with urgency for all timelines and deadlines.
- Guides team members in customer interface activities to fully define customer requirements.
- Presents complete design capabilities to clients and uncovers their unmet needs alongside other sales and customer-facing personnel. Participates in customer-facing activities.
- Maintains an understanding of electrical design for power, automation controls, drives, and other applicable technologies used by the team.
- Leads and fosters a culture of continuous improvement, employee engagement, and open communications.
- Recruits, leads, and develops a team of Project Managers and Engineers to support Solutions Architects’ and Construction Leaders’ business development efforts.
- Provides performance evaluations and coaching to team members.
