What are the responsibilities and job description for the Qualified Mental Health Specialist - School Based position at Full Circle Recovery Services?
Summary:
The school-based Qualified Mental Health Specialist (QMHS) will be responsible for collaborating, coordinating, and working with school-based programs. The school-based QMHS will be responsible for providing transportation, services, support, and activities related to the delivery of mental health care to assigned students at the designated school location(s). Assist students in executing their mental health treatment goals.
Primary Duties
Assist students in adhering to treatment plans, arranging transportation, and providing support. Collaborate with counselors to coordinate treatment. Support clients in group and programming. Monitor clients conduct and report progress with respect to treatment goals, engagements, and concerns to the treatment team. Build community resources to support needed referrals and support. Facilitate life skills group sessions on community linkage, education, coping skills, communication, etc.
Qualification Requirements:
- Minimum- QMHS 3 years’ experience and/or QMHS-Bachelor’s level
- Experience working in direct service with youth, school systems, and families recommended.
- Strong communication and time management skills with an ability to motivate and engage students.
- Computer and technology skills
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Carry out detailed written and/or oral instructions, along with the ability to understand human behavior
- Must maintain a professional demeanor while dealing with emotionally charged issues and individuals
- Must be able to make decisions at times with imperfect information
- Effectively present information and respond to questions from a diverse demographic group.
- Effective Communication and active listening skills
- Must demonstrate the ability to effectively manage multiple tasks concurrently.
- Strong organizational skills
- Assess student’s physical and mental wellness, needs, preferences, and abilities and use these to develop tailored care plans with treatment team
- Working to link students and family with support networks and other health care professionals within the community.
- Communicate concerns and status to treatment team members and school system.
- Attendance of 1 hour per week of supervision as requested by Clinic Security & Logistics to staff students, coordinate services, etc…
- Recording student’s progress including charting referrals, home visits, and other notable interactions via agency EMR/EHR
- Ensuring development and maintenance of student assignments, placements, vocalized therapeutic concerns, and needed services.
- Evaluating students’ progress periodically, making and communicating needed adjustments with staff as needed to improve outcomes for students.
- Ensuring documentation is completed in a timely manner.
- Advocacy on behalf of students with schools, community agencies, and other providers.
- Facilitate QHMS qualified activity group.
- Assist with logistical tasks needed to ensure program success (transportation, meal planning, activity functions, etc.)

- Valid Ohio Driver’s license
- Must possess a strong knowledge of the common diagnoses and treatments for school-aged children and possess the skills necessary to facilitate positive change in a school environment.
