Summary
The Program Specialist for Elementary Science is responsible for assisting the Science Director in planning for and training Curriculum Support Teachers and K-5 science teachers in the implementation of effective K-5 standards-based science instruction in all schools.
Essential Duties
- Assists schools in implementing effective science instruction using research based instructional strategies
- Assists administrators in supporting, training, and coaching teachers and staff in science
- Designs and delivers training to administrators / teachers in providing feedback to students to improve instruction delivery
- Identifies resources and supports teachers with differentiation to meet all students' needs in science
- Provides individual assistance to schools experiencing significant struggles in the areas of conceptual understanding of science content, or the application of science practices
- Works in collaboration with other departments and areas to maximize teacher effectiveness as it relates to facilitating learning science
- Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator
Required Education
Bachelor's Degree in Education or in the area of Science
Master's Degree preferred
Certification / Licensure
Must hold or be eligible for a valid and clear teaching certificate in the area of Elementary Education or Science
Experience Qualifications
Minimum of three years successful classroom teaching experience required; Three years supervisory experience preferred; Prior experience with standards-based instruction, teaching of science, and professional staff development required; Experience working within a large, complex organization preferred
