DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS SUMMER INTERNSHIP
The purpose of this program is to gain skills this summer through a 10-week paid internship that will prepare participants for future careers in the field of Public Works. Interns will be assigned to one of (10) positions within the Department and will also have the opportunity to learn about all of the Department’s various functions.
The intern must have an interest in the field of Public Works, including water and wastewater systems, engineering and construction, administration, education, or aviation.

The Fulton County Department of Public Works Summer Internship provides an opportunity for recent high school graduates to develop skills in the administration, construction, and maintenance of water and wastewater systems, airport management, laboratory science, or outreach education.
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 17 years old, and must be a high school graduate (or G.E.D.), an undergraduate student or enrolled in a technical college
- Must be available Wednesday, May 21, 2025 - Tuesday, July 29, 2025
- There is a minimum of 32 hours per work week of on-site work, with a maximum of 40 hours per week for 10 weeks.

Intern responsibilities will vary depending on placement within the Department. All interns will work under close supervision to support the goals of their assigned division. Possible placements include the Fulton County Executive Airport, Laboratory, Industrial Monitoring, Technical Services (Construction Management), Water System Maintenance, Water System Administration, and Public Education and Outreach. Most positions require the intern to be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and lift or carry at least 25lbs. Some placements may require occasional evening or weekend work. Job duties will vary depending on placement. Some examples of responsibilities are listed below:
- Complete airfield maintenance tasks
- Collect and perform field and laboratory analyses on drinking water and wastewater samples
- Assist with Industrial Monitoring site visits and inspections, take photographs, and collect samples
- Monitor construction project schedules and assist with on-site inspections
- Create and maintain work orders in the Cityworks software application
- Assist with water service line and meter installation and repairs
- Assist with leading water-themed educational activities for children and adults
Salary : $16 - $32
