Summary
The Specialist II, Architecture and Engineering supports the department and coordinators with project assistance and compliance with Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) requirements. This role is responsible for day-to-day oversight and a wide range of professional tasks within Capital Programs, including inventory drawings, GaDOE reimbursables, maximum occupancy requirements, drawing archives, GaDOE Capital Outlay Program System (COPS), and site approval.
Responsibilities
- Assists in GaDOE compliance for the District’s planning, application, and project compliance.
- Maintains GaDOE Capital Outlay Program System (COPS) including annual updates to Facility and School Registry.
- Coordinates, maintains, and manages the archive files and documents for Capital Programs.
- Manages site approval process with GaDOE for new schools and additions.
- Maintains and manages the inventory drawings using computer-aided design software.
- Updates the square footage inventory for all school facilities annually.
- Reviews and updates the maximum occupancy limits for all school assembly areas.
- Visits the District’s facilities to review and confirm information on record documents.
- Establishes and maintains files and documents as required by State and Federal Laws, State Department of Education Rules and Regulations, and Fulton County Board of Education Policies, where applicable.
- Provides administrative and operational support to the Coordinators as required.
- Manages the daily office functions of the assigned area of responsibility.
- Undertakes projects assigned by the Director to support organizational initiatives.
- Attends training / conferences to keep abreast of current laws, trends, and best practices.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator.
Required Education
High School Diploma or GED. Associate’s Degree in Architecture, Engineering or related field preferred.
Certification / Licensure
None required; must be willing to acquire additional training as directed by manager.
Experience Qualifications
Minimum of 3 years of experience in a related field required. Experience using computer-aided design software required; Experience with Kahua or similar project manager software preferred.
